Best CD player under $5K?
Hi Mrtennis, didn't mean to imply to anyone that I actually have Ric's OPPO, although I've considered getting it at some point. Currently I use a Ric Schultz-modified Behringer DEQ-2496 as a DAC. He modded the power supply, upgraded the DAC chip a...
Best CD player under $5K?
I believe the Ric Schultz-modified version too has comments on it here at Audiogon...come to think of it there may be modified versions from other makers that have comments here as well.
Best CD player under $5K?
You bet Bbyb, take a look at what others have said about it here on Audiogon.
Best CD player under $5K?
Hi Mrtennis, the way I understand it, the tubes-or-no question may be less relevant than you might think (though I'm certainly not doubting your experiences in the least), but generally it may come down more to 1) whether or not a piece has been m...
Used cables $1k - SF Amati and Bel Canto RF1000??
All things considered, I actually tend to agree with what Jkj25 is saying. If you do indeed have a considerable frequency response problem, then cables are likely not the best solution. That's partly because cables very generally fall into one of ...
Bi-amping LF with high-powered pro amplifiers
The issue Rrog raises is real but it may come down to whether the crossover point is low enough to avoid any soundstaging or tonal disparities between the 2 amps. If near 100hz or so it shouldn't be any big deal, but much above 200hz or so and thi...
Used cables $1k - SF Amati and Bel Canto RF1000??
Just want to say that when it comes to balanced IC's be sure to take it real slow. There's a lot more disparity in performance among single-ended IC's than balanced (exactly why I've never found a satisfactory answer). My point is you may be able ...
Best CD player under $5K?
I dunno for sure, but it's at least possible that the Ric Schultz-modified Oppo 95 is the best player on the planet right now.
Direct connect with the Emotiva
Yep, NOW you're cookin' with grease, right?? Lotsa 'philes have discovered the joys of going preampless. I haven't had a linestage for years. Anytime you can get rid of an entire component in the signal chain, you're doing something right, I think...
Hardwood floors in basement music room?
Hi Tatool, I think I can sympathise with your plight, but the main sonic advantage in having a wood floor to begin with is indeed the air cavity created by the riser. A concrete slab will at least tend to cause unwanted bass reflections. If you ha...
EVS modded Oppo 95
I'm never surprised at just how surprised people are when they have something modded by Ric. I've come to think he's simply the best modder out there, bar none...and to top it all off, he's also the lowest priced...! How ya gonna beat that??
Does listening fatigue go away???
Oh, now I see Daimbert. No, burn-in and listening fatigue are actually 2 separate issues. Both are real, but burn-in does indeed go away while listening fatigue does not ever do so unless and until you make whatever the necessary pre-emptive chang...
Does listening fatigue go away???
Hi Chazro, my definition is: anything that prematurely causes your mind to wander during a listening stint, or otherwise causes you to begin to wonder what's on TV. As such, probably a pretty common issue, I'm guessing.
The Audiophile's Wife
That's a scream...!!!!
Dont laugh
Hi Gammajo, I'm not laughing. I have a minimalist CD-only system that costs around 5 grand. My analog IC's are balanced Mapleshades Excalibur ribbons (VERY happy with them), but tried a 3' pair of Dayton balanced mic cables for a temporary fix onc...
