How important is component “aesthetics” to you?
Trust me. Class A amps are very easy to build. The F5 is very simple compared to typical commercial products, but if you want to see brutal simplicity, go look at Nelson's Zen Variations. You'll never find a class D that simple. I honestly think c...
How important is component “aesthetics” to you?
@lalitk It’s not particularly special aside from the facts that I built it, it runs hot rails, and it has no current limiting. It's doing 41 watts instead of the standard 25 watts. The thing that surprises people is that the actual amps are so sma...
Do I have to spend $4000 plus to get a better sounding speaker than GET model 7 ?
There was a member here who was debating between and auditioned both the Sierra and Focal 936 in his home. He chose the Sierra, but by a slim margin. The 936's are only about 64 pounds. The 926 is 5 inches shorter and 9 pounds lighter with the exa...
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
Thankfully it is free! I probably wouldn't ridicule such silliness if I had to pay a dime to do it. Are these fuse fans going to start obsessing over the choice of solder? What about those aluminum legs on their transistors? Did somebody check to ...
Focal sopra 2 or raidho d2?
The Sopra No.2 and 3 are big speakers and I think they warrant a big room.

My F5 resides in a topless HiFi2000 4U case with no markings or adornments. When people see it the first thing they do is gaze down inside it and I beam with pride. The case itself looks beefy as all hell, but it's the stuff inside that gets the a...
Zu def 4 are they the best speaker made?
@johnk Yeah... Those are practical in a 16'x21' room. Not real perfect from where I'm sitting by a long shot.
Your advice to speakers designers
I buy Focals so the look and sound great. I guess my advice to the others would be to stop trying to build the weirdest looking cabinets imaginable. I'm thinking of those Vivids that look like turds or gourds or whatever. And GoldenEar with their ...
Focal Aria 936 vs 926 bass response
I just looked up the M32. The specs look like a good match to the speakers. I sincerely doubt you'll ever use even half that power with the most aggressive material at crazy loud volume. My F5 is operating at 41wpc RMS in class A with no sign of c...
Focal Aria 936 vs 926 bass response
They really are great speakers for the price. I've tweaked out the F5 a bit and I'm getting some exceptional sound out of them. Mine sound better in my room than they did in the shop by a wide margin. It's rare to make an truly zero regret purchas...
Is this an ugly speaker? TAS cover 10/2017
I don't have any problems with it's looks. I'm not sure how you'd make a speaker do what that does and look any different.

Since you're not using a stack of crap, give the Focal 900 series a listen. 100 watts is plenty for them. Mine are being served well by a 40 watt Pass F5 clone. I'm sure a lot of people have paid more for lesser sound.
Ever Bought an Audio Product that was Stupid Good for the Money?
@trelja He's probably serious. Geoff thinks common wire resists the flow of energy in one direction but not the other. There's no explaining him.
Wilsons are the best speakers in the world
@shadorne The Focal W cone isn't nearly as stiff as some of the crazy stuff other companies are cranking out. Aluminum, carbon fiber, and the like. Those materials ring like freaking bells. Personally, I think Focal really hit on something with th...
what speakers to buy
@gdhal No, I haven't heard the Reference model. I think GoldenEar are pretty good speakers for the money they're asking, but their entire line sans the Reference model largely targets Focal's 900 series line. My rubs with the GoldenEar products ar...
