I'm in the Philly area frequently and listen to WXPN as soon as it becomes available- U Penn station I believe and they do have a vinyl hour or two every day around mid day and yes it is an excellent station as are all the member supported station...
Anyone into cassettes?
Bought a used Nakamichi about 10 years ago,Can't remember the model but remember it sounding excellent and still have it. Not quite as good as a friends reel to reel deck from back in the 70's though, man did that sound sweet.
Tad 1000's quiet?
Out of curiousity have you tried hooking a CD player up to the 150 and or trying the other inputs? I owned the 150 and regret selling it, also about to get my 1000's back. Whatever you do don't use kt 66 tubes in them
vintage versus modern speakers
I think I would be more willing to take a chance on vingage amplification(particularly receivers) than vinatage speakers, of course there are exceptions and due diligence goes a long way so choose wisely and most important try to have some fun
Inexpensive tube amp
It's a real shame and kind of sad that Jim Nichols can no longer be used as a reference, as he built some of the best tube amps around for the money
Quality system, make poor recordings sound better?
there's some very good and interesting responses here but it would be nice if there were a few paragraph breaks for some of the longer ones
JWN Amps still in business?
From what I surmised from that thread awhile back was that Jim either had some health issues / medical bills and or rehab of some nature that I could only speculate about causing him financial hardship. It's rather unfortunate as Jim made some gre...
Custom Audiophile Speaker Builders

Anyone see the Marc Maron show a couple of weeks
Happy to hear someone else saw this episode it really was funny. I also liked the part when he told his friend how much he paid for the Mac - and replied $4000.00 and his friend then replied "what! are you kidding I could have bought like three ca...
Seeking more 3d imaging, deeper/wider soundstage
All things being equal I still believe that tubes provide a deeper soundstage with greater depth. As always YMM
High End Audio-Gaining Higher Ground?
I mentioned Peter Green because he was in the original Fleetwood Mac band. Many people don't realize how great a guitar player Frank Zappa was, and while we're at it how about a shout out for Mike Bloomfield as well
High End Audio-Gaining Higher Ground?
I'm still waiting on that chance encounter of meeting or running into a fellow audiophile by accident
High End Audio-Gaining Higher Ground?
There's also the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac which was an entirely different creature and doesn't seem to get the respect they deserve. I do agree though Lindsey is an under rated guitar player as is Zappa
High End Audio-Gaining Higher Ground?
At the Bestbuy near me the Magnolia room is located in the rear corner of the store and if you didn't know it was there you could easily miss it, and don't see many people in there anyhow, particularly younger people. There was a line around the bu...
High End Audio-Gaining Higher Ground?
There are many good bands out there today but it seems for the most part we're shielded from it for some reason. Perhaps not enough advertising money in it for that demographic? I'm fortunate to live in an area that has a member funded radio stati...
