| Phono hum I have a VPI Scoutmaster with the same cartridge, same problem. The only fix I could find was using a PS Audio GCPH phono preamp. Completely eliminated the hum. Switching power cords, cables, grounds, using RFI/EMF shielding did next to nothing to... | |
| Phono Pre Amp $1K or less? The PS Audio GCPH is a phenomenal buy at under $1000. I tried many phono pre-amps costing up to $3500 and this little unit matched or bettered most. Very versatile, well-built, balanced circuitry. For $350 more you can get the Underwood/Part Connex... | |
| ARC LS17 vs Aesthesix Calypso Jwc37 brings up a good point about Aesthetix: They are fantastic to deal with. Jim White and Glenn Buckley are two of the nicest guys in Audioland. | |
| ARC LS17 vs Aesthesix Calypso I own the ML Summits too and think the Calypso sounds wonderful paired with it.Email me if you have additional questions. | |
| Martin Logan Summit vs. Odessy Yes. The Summit does everything better with a smaller footprint. Most folks feel the Summits represent MLs best attempt at integrating the low frequencies with the mids and highs. | |
| Springsteen's "Magic" on vinyl, opinions? There's another post here that confirms Brendan O'Brien ruined an otherwise fine album with poor production and mixing. The consensus is he mixed the album to be played through iPod earphones. Vinyl isn't much of an improvement: Garbage in, garbag... | |
| Pairing Aesthetix Calypso w/ Pass Labs or Plinius? I own the Calypso and a Pass 350.5, and it's a beautiful combination. | |
| From Pass X250,5 to 350,5 : what to expect? Having gone from 200 to 300 watts with both Levinson and Pass amps, driving fairly inefficient speakers, I can confirm that more power is better. Better dynamics, better headroom, better low-end control. The only sacrifice for these considerable b... | |
| Has anyone updated Senn HD650 cable? Yes, I did: Revelation Audio Labs cable. Some improvement was gained, like better resolution and increased dynamics. It's a much higher quality cable than what Sennheiser provides and worth the investment if you're a serious listener. | |
| Pet audiophile peeves - name yours Deadbeats who say they're going to buy something, then don't.Or, in the case of one recent lowlife from A'Gon, say they'll sell something to you at an agreed-upon price, then renege and try to squeeze you for a higher price. (This particular jerk ... | |
| Just installed Cathedral Sound Panels Tbg,Thanks for the English lesson (my typing skills are another matter), but I DID mean no negligible effect. As in, they had no effect that I could hear. | |
| DIY cable cooker for power cables? Male IEC? Hi,Actually, I have several of the cable connectors you're looking for and they work great hooked up to a refrigerator. If you're in interested in purchasing a pair or two (they're brand new) just email me.Thanks. | |
| Help....I have a blank slate and am flying blind Very good, Viridian. Cunning linguistics, unite! | |
| The Irrational But Efficacious CD Tweak I've used the Purist Audio System Enhancer which costs five times more and does essentially the same thing. Does it work? I honestly think it's no more effective than playing a dynamic piece of music or radio static the same number of hours.Tweaks... | |
| Just installed Cathedral Sound Panels Interesting that you got some benefit from them. I tried out a couple of pairs and found they had no neglible effect. Based on what little I know about room acoustics, the panels are physically too small to be effective bass absorbers or mitigators. |
