Upgrading - - recommendations monitor speaker?
600-800$ will get you a pair of fine monitors...I would suggest Spendors,Epos,Quad L series,Castle,etc...I tend to like BRit monitors...which have that open, airy midrange quality...maybe a little lean on bass...but you are planning on adding a su...
speaker sensitivity dividing lines
Yes these specs can be useful when pairing componets...but the bottom line...speaker sensitivity has little bearing on how a speaker SOUNDS....it does have some relation on how a speaker will BEHAVE with sufficient or insufficient power and at cer...
High efficiency speakers vs Low, pros and cons
I wouldnt worry too much about it...find a speaker u like...then mate with appropiate power...as much as people want to make it...this is not rocket science....I also agree there are no real advantages to hi-efficiency designs other than low power...
Opinions on the new Meadowlark Kestrel '2'
Also add Vandersteen 2 sigs to your audition list...
What's you opinion?
Well...if you think there are very few decent loudspeakers...try finding a musical sub...slim pickings...there is REL,Sunfire(much to hi enders dismay),M&K, hi end Velodyne...ect...

Comparison between Sunfire and REL subs ????
Sunfire has a bad rep in "hi end circles"...mainly due to the poor quality of Carver componets after Bob left...bottom line: a sub is a driver AND an amp...a very powerful one at that...REL are nice..but Sunfire is no slouch...I dont find them "bo...
Front port vs. Rear Port
I would agree...most cheaper "ports" are simply a hole to increase bass response and to some extent sensitivity/efficiency...that being said...the best "ported" designs take into account phase cancellation, distortion, etc to obtain accurate bass re...
Front port vs. Rear Port
If space is a premium...then I would opt for a front ported design...however...front ports tend to suffer from "chuffing" problems at higher volumes...that is the port tends to add audible noise and distortion...again...this is most noticable at h...

How many Maggie owners have special stands?
When set up correctly...that is 3-4 ft behind the speakers...and a good 2-3 ft. away from side walls...the need for additional stands is diminished...the overall soundstage doesnt change...especially in regards to depth...and imaging with Mags has...
35Hz - 25kHz -- A Partial 'Purist'?
SInce very few monitors do 40hz...intergrating a sub can be difficult...even at the 40hz(full range) point..the speakers are down -3db...and a sub at the same setting is down -3db as well...that is why crossing over the sub at an octave higher...i...
How many Maggie owners have special stands?
Part of the value of Maggies over standmounts, etc is that stands are not required...I am not discounting the above comments...but the real key area(and has always been) with Mags is speaker placement...especially in the rear....when set up correct...
Comparison between Sunfire and REL subs ????
I find Sunfire a bit more "aggressive" in nature than REL...this could also be slightly exaggerated due to the REL being a more laid-back, Brit sound sub...both are very clean and musical...and considering there are really only a handful of decent...
