Mystery of the Disappearing Frequency
50Hz has a wavelength of more than 20 feet (longer than your room). You are hearing room mode bass response. Since the effect is everywhere then it is also likely you have quarter wave cancellation. http://www.mh-audio.nl/CancellationFreq.aspThe o...
Low level crackling sound coming from speakers
Yup - your amp - something is breaking down to ground - probably a cap.
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
+1 AlmargThe only reason you could ever need better fuses or better power cords is if your equipment is totally inadequately designed and badly built to begin with!Well designed and well built Components will maximize the accuracy of the source si...
Whats playing on your system today?
@slaw Awesome. Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato are my two favorite Rush songs. My favorite album is exit stage left - still can't believe only three guys playing in real time without any loops sequencers or anything. What do you think is their best ...
Wilson Audio Sophia III Question/Help
A foot from side walls is a huge problem. You really need a minimum of 3 feet! The side wall reflections tend to make the sound collapse to the speakers giving you a weaker stereo central image. Move the speakers closer together. Nothing wrong wit...
B&W 801 S2 Fatigue VS. 802 S2 No Fatigue?
Assuming the tweeters ferrofluid has NOT dried out and you are experiencing tweeter distortion/glare!If you are a purist you need time to get used to the much better and more accurate superior sound of the 801. If you like a more coloured sound th...
amp and unwanted speaker vibration
Your amp needs servicing. Capacitors need replacing.
Is there somewhere I can check vinyl sound quality?
Easy - Japanese vinyl is the best. Concentrate on Japanese vinyl with the OBI or sash and you won't be disappointed. Pallas in Germany is ok too. As for the recordings the selves - well it is the same issue for digital - not everything is well mix...
12 ft pair of thick speakers cables?? Can they be cut downt to a 6 ft pair??
Cable reflection can be ignored at audio frequencies (very low) and at these short lengths. The wavelengths are so long compared to the physical dimensions that reflections can be considered instantaneous at both ends and do not alter the electric...
interconnects vs speaker cables vs power cords - which make the biggest difference?
Equally important. You cannot get any sound unless you have connected power and speakers and source to amp.
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
Todd,I would actually say our hearing is pretty unreliable when it comes to infinitessimally small differences and more often than not we think we hear something because we are expecting to! This is why designers rely on instrumentation to test an...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
If you need 99.9999 pure copper versus regular copper then you have serious problems with your components. We are talking infinitesimally small differences in performance. Components should be properly designed to handle infinitesimally small diff...
Should I upgrade to XLR interconnects?
No brainer. XLR should be equivalent sounding but in addition XLR negates a whole host of ground loop and other issues - so performance will always be at least as good but can often be better in many instances.
Wilson Audio Haters
I didn’t mean say you can’t use 8 inch woofers - just that they are inadequate to properly do the highest end true full range. I guess I should have added - at realistic volume levels! Of course the limited excursion of 8 inch can be used down to ...

With respect to the Onkyo 5509. I can concur with Bo that this is a great DSP for HT systems - it worked great in my 7.1 setup. When you have 7 speakers in one room you definitely need a clever DSP with something like Audyssey XT32 or other room E...
