Best Loudspeakers for Rich Timbre?
+1 @david_ten Correct. The speaker should be as transparent and neutral as possible. It is not possible to remove resonance or euphonic syrupy timbre once you have it. However, starting with a speaker that is clean and neutral at all dynamic level...
Tube recommendations
+1 Telefunken NOS or you could go modern Gold Lions (honestly they can be just as good). Both will fit your application (low noise & detail).
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
@dasign @dracule1 The linearity test plot shown are frequency responses taken at two different SPL levels and then subtracted from each other. A speaker that has no compression will be flat across the full range of frequencies demonstrating 0 dB ...

“Shadorne is a troll......he is the infinite audio expert............take his worthless word for it.      If you can’t offer facts keep you mouth shut if you can’t contribute to the thread”Just trying to inject some rationality into all the hyperb...
The RME ADI 2-DAC 32Bit/768kHz
Yes this is a fantastic bargain DAC for the quality. The FS version measures absolutely superbly (unlike Schiit products). It can compete with DACs twice the money (Benchmark, Mytek, Bryston, Auralic etc.).
balanced components
Yes you can. The only issue could be gain matching. Professional grade XLR runs +24Dbu with lots of headroom and usually on at least 18 volt rails. This can be too hot for consumer grade equipment running on 5 volt rails. In this case some attenua...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
@sciencecop   So the S5 Mk1 is nothing like the Mk 2. I’d like to see the linearity measurement repeated on the Mk2 until then all we have is the previous version. If the S5 Mk2 is a fantastic speaker, what do you think of the Mk1 and why did they ...
Considering the New Tekton Design Encores? AND Owners Group - Experiences/Questions
@jcarcopo Agree with your comments. Dangerous Convert 2 is a great DAC too.Out of curiosity - are you using XLR out of the Benchmark DAC and in to the HPA4?Also did you set the Benchmark close to full volume (no resistor pad attenuation and about ...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
It’s a deviation from linearity plot. “Deviation from linearity - Measured with a frequency sweep across the audible spectrum on axis at 2 meters.Purpose: Shows how a speaker is stressed and if it compresses at certain frequencies as the sound-pre...
Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
Good for you. I guess you found the ultimate speaker ;-)
Have DAC’s improved for Redbook CD playback?
@roberjerman Here is a stone fir you!Not true. Many DACs measure quite poorly. Stereophile A+ list doesn’t include every DAC they tested because only a few tested beyond reproach.I agree that audible differences are often nit-picking. However ther...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
“I must have blasted my magico today to beyond concert levels and these speakers remained composed. Not an ounce of compression. I’m very impressed.”Oh really? Looks like severe compression at a mere 95 dB SPL to mehttps://www.soundstagenetwork.co...
Have DAC’s improved for Redbook CD playback?
@celander +1 Mulveling I have tried various cables and clocks with the Benchmark DAC 3 and it makes no difference. Other DACs I have tried did benefit from these devices. Whether you see a benefit from an extra device in front of your DAC depends ...
Who wants to return to the previous Audiogon list format?
@admin I tried exactly as you suggested and it didn’t work. I used to be able search product categories by a search term for example select Preamps then subcategory tubes and then add a search term like McIntosh. I can no longer do that - the sear...
