Best Loudspeakers for Rich Timbre?
+1 @audiokinesis Total agreement. 6 inch woofer is simply too big for the mid range. B&W and countless other speakers never sound completely natural for this very reason. To sound natural a speaker must have wide consistent dispersion across t...
Accuracy vs. Enjoyment
+1 @bdp24   @almarg  Active speakers are the way to go. Proper size mid range driver is crucial. Phase compensated for perfect coherence between drivers.

Monitor Audio Pl 300ii vs. KEF Reference 5
What did you buy? I love Kef but I find the resonance on the port of the PL200 draws to much attention to itself and takes a little detail away from the lower mid quality - in the driver integration is not quite there and not totally convincing. T...
To power condition or not
Try both. I have never had a problem with ATC Actives - dead quiet even with your ear right over the tweeter. It is crucial that you use XLR - a good cable in Canare Star Quad. If you use inferior RCA and adapt that to XLR adaptor then you can of ...
What are your top songs that you use to evaluate a new high end purchase ?
You obviously like the Stones - Monkey Man and Beast of Burden should be on your list.
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation??
No. I don’t like flavoured speakers. I do like flavoured electronics - like tubes!I think of a speaker as being like a lens - you want it to be as transparent as possible with the least distortion possible. This allows you to hear what the source ...
narrow and wide baffles and imaging
@audiokinesis +1 Totally agree.
One DAC/integrated you could be happy with forever?
@erik_squires   Yes. If you don’t upsample then you should also be ok.
One DAC/integrated you could be happy with forever?
@erik_squires I have only seen Lyngdorf, Roon, Benchmark and Stereophile’s Jim Austin mention the inter-sample over problem. For such a serious problem affecting nearly all pop/rock it doesn’t seem over hyped. Obviously most manufacturers would ra...
One DAC/integrated you could be happy with forever?
@erik_squires Roon has a -3dB volume adjustment that is specifically intended to fix this problem. So if you use the right software then even a DAC that would normally clip can be made to work properly,
One DAC/integrated you could be happy with forever?
@d2girls here is an explanationhttps://benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/intersample-overs-in-cd-recordings “Every D/A chip and SRC chip that we have tested here at Benchmark has an intersample clipping problem! To the best of our knowled...
