Need Small Bookshelf Speakers With a Big Sound
Couldn't agree more on the P3s.  It does things that seem impossible for their size, and they sound like music.  Easy to listen for hours but still focus on the details in the music if you want to.
Which components are "stupid good"?
JW Audio speaker cables.  10 bucks a stereo foot, so I spent $70 on my cables, and they have bested or equaled cables costing up to $3000 (my system, my ears, etc.)  I no longer audition speaker cables because I'm completely satisfied with the JW ...
Dealers That Sell Large Volumes of Used Gear Online
TMR has been great to deal with.  I've sold multiple pieces to them, and they have offered fair prices.  They are quick to get a quote to me, and they send the mailing labels so I can just drop it off at Fedex.  Echo Audio is also fantastic.  Frie...
Harbeth P3's or CS7 easier drive
No doubt the Croft is great with the P3s - I've heard it myself and enjoyed it a great deal.  I thought I was making a step up from the P3s to the C7s.  While I certainly got more bass and better dynamics from the C7s (and the beautiful Harbeth mi...
HEGEL H80 volume question
Not sure if you were asking me, but my experience was with an Oppo 105 CD player.  I tried both the unbalanced and balanced inputs.  The balanced seemed a bit better, but I just never got comfortable with the sound.  The volume didn't wander, but ...
Harbeth P3's or CS7 easier drive
I have had both the C7s and the P3s.  I do think the P3s require a bit more power and control from the amp than the C7s.  In fact, one time as an experiment I tried a 6.5wpc single ended amp.  The C7s sounded pretty good with it, at lower levels o...
HEGEL H80 volume question
I really struggled with the volume settings on my Hegel H80.  I just never sounded right (I had the KEF LS50s at the time, too).  I was always turning it up or down, sometimes several times during the same song.  Details seemed glossed over, so I'...
How much can I improve on my old SACD player?
Jeff, yes, I think the Marantz sound is pretty good, but there's a very obvious digital signature to it that draws my attention away from the music.  I don't want to spend another $1,000 just to find out that DACs in that price range are relativel...
Harbeth P3 vs KEF LS50W
With respect to the LFD- yes, the Mistral is an earlier amp, which had a phono section.  I tried both the Mistral and the Mk. V in my system at different times.  I slightly preferred the Mistral, because the Mk.V seemed to have less bass response....
Harbeth P3 vs KEF LS50W
With respect to power - the P3s are lower sensitivity but a pretty easy load for the amp.  My room is about the same size as yours and I'm in an apartment where I have to consider my neighbors.  50 watts from the Naim 5i-2 and Simaudio i-1 were mo...
Harbeth P3 vs KEF LS50W
Good choice!  I have had both the P3s and the KEF LS50 and far preferred the Harbeths.  Different sounds for sure, and I can see others preferring the KEF.  Any of the British integrated amps would be excellent with the Harbeths.@fjn04 makes a gre...
Question about how to use Feickert Protractor
Thanks for the wealth of information!@lewm I don't seen any way to easily adjust the distance, although I will post question on the VPI forum to see what they recommend.I can easily find the pivot point as it's a unipivot design.  With the protrac...
Question about how to use Feickert Protractor
@drrsutliff thanks, that makes sense.  I'll give it a shot this evening and see how it works out.
Question about how to use Feickert Protractor
Thanks for the quick response.  I'm still a bit confused about a couple of things - maybe I'm just having an off night :).  First, I don't think I can change the P2S distance on the VPI Prime, at least not that I can see.  The manufacturer recomme...
Looking for turntable isolation advice
Thanks - that's the same table I have.  Good to know it works well.
