SACD Warning--"Do not use liquid cleaning..." ?
Okay, I found this on the Auric Illuminator website, which seems to answer my orignial question:Auric Illuminator is not compatible with early made hybrid SACDs made by Sonopress. You can identify SONOPRESS SACDs by a marking around the inner spin...
SACD Warning--"Do not use liquid cleaning..." ?
Two of my SACDs that have this warning are on the Telarc label (Al Di Meola's _Flesh on Flesh_ and Ensemble Galilie's _From the Isles to the Courts_). The disc surface definately looks different on these. I thought I remembered the instruction she...
CD-R Recs
Okay, one more question. The elite line of Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs are described as waterproof. Is water capable of harming a normal CD-R? I usually wash new CDs to remove the mold release gunk and was wondering if it is safe to do this on a CD-R.
CD-R Recs
Thanks for the tips. I will be burning on a computer burner. I noticed that the TY discs are described as ink jet printable. Is it safe to write on these with a Sharpie Marker? I've heard concerns that on most CD-Rs the ink can seep in and mess wi...
Best Brandenburg Concerto recording CD
One factor that might make a difference is whether you prefer a closely miked recording or one with more space. The Martin Pearlman recordings evoke a large hall, while the Trevor Pinnock recordings sound closer and more intimate. I like the perfo...
Ungrounding an Amp--Any Danger?
Thanks for the warnings. I am recalling a story I heard some years ago about one of the former members of the Yard Birds. He electrocuted himself while tuning his electric guitar. I assume his guitar amp wasn't properly grounded. The hum is definat...
CD Mats
David12 and Maclogan,Were your CDs otherwise untweaked, or were you using the mats in addition to other treatments?
CD Mats
Aurex claims that its mat will work with changers as long as they are the horizontal type. The SID specifically says not to use it with changers. Not sure about the other kinds out there.
Anti-Static Treatments
Thanks for the responses so far. I use Auric Illuminator on my CDs, so I was thinking about how to treat my cables. Am I correct that a dryer sheet contains the same chemicals as anti-static spray? Rubbing my cables with a dryer sheet would be les...
Any Thoughts on KEF's new IQ line?
Can someone comment on the sound staging? Just how superior (if at all) is the Uni-Q driver at producing a deep sound stage in comparison to more conventional driver arrays? I'm trying to decide between the KEF IQ9 and the Wharfedale Opus 1. Any a...
Dali, Amphion, Zu
Does the Dali Ikon 6 sound okay with a solid state amp? I have an NAD C372 integrated. Also, can someone who has one tell me how much you paid for it? Thanks in advance.Tony
Triangle Speakers
Thanks for the responses. Yes, I have the 202 version. I had forgotten the name.I don't have any plans to upgrade my amp, so I'm hearing that Triangles might not be the best choice for me.
Problems with Optrix Spray
Lkdog,Maybe, I'm using the wrong terminology. What I meant is that Optrix, Auric, Vivid etc. are all designed to help light pass into and out of the CD more easily (without spilling) by providing an interfacing layer of material, while Shine-Ola l...
Problems with Optrix Spray
Thanks to everyone for sharing. I've treated several CDs with the new Auric Illuminator and so far (3 weeks later) there is no clouding. I do have some Shine-ola which I use on SACDs, but it is a cleaner rather than a "clarifier" like Optrix is su...
Using Mikro-Smooth w/o Scratching
You rinse Mikro-Smooth off the CD with water after polishing, so chemical reaction should not be an issue. Tony
