Best way to clean CD's?
A somewhat different question: will using Mapleshade Mikro-Smooth + Optrix spray remove all of the mold separater, or is it worth pre-cleaning with a dedicated mold separater remover like LAT International's Once and Done? Tony
CD Tweaks and Longterm Damage
Back to the ph question. :-)Granting that the Armorall problems have nothing to do with ph, that still leaves the question whether or not a substance with a non-neutral ph would harm CDs over time (lets say 20 years for the sake of argument). Does...
Alternatives to Stoplight Pen RIP
Is the Auric Illuminator pen any good? I was thinking of trying out the Mikro-smooth + Auric + Ionoclast combo to see if it is any better than the Mikro-smooth + Optrix + Ionoclast combo I have been using. Tony
Speaker Wires on Carpet
It's called thinking outside the box. The relevant issue is the isolation properties of glass. (And that glass won't stain the carpet, like the substance you propose.) So...back to the original question. How is glass as an isolator?
Speaker Wires on Carpet
Would glass also work as an isolator? I was browsing in Pier 1 and saw some glass knickknacks that were about the right size and shape (and price) for running cables over. Tony
Speaker Wires on Carpet
Looks like I generated a lively discussion. :-)Let me repeat one of my questions: does it make any difference if the positive and negative runs are twisted together (as they are in many inwall wires) or are running straight and parallel? I thought...
"3 Dimensional Sound"?
Thanks for the responses. I might pick up one of those Chesky test CDs and find out if I can hear any height information. Sure would be nice to be born in the 24th century when they have REAL holographic imaging. :-)
Creek amp repair in USA
Thanks for the info, guys. I sent my NAD C370 to be repaired at the only authorized service center in Colorado. It took 3 months, and it only worked for a day before it broke again. :-(
Analog Domain EQs
I asked this earlier--is it okay to use an equalizer designed for professional use (studio, live performance) in a home audio system? I got one affirmative answer in my earlier thread. As for digital EQs, I'm concerned about what they will do to my...
Integrated Amp with A/B Speaker Switch
This will be under-budget, but the NAD C370 and C372 have A/B switches.
Splitting Preamp Output--Affect Sound Quality?
Thanks for the responses. I currently have an NAD C370 integrated amp with two preamp outputs. I was just wondering how I would handle my sub if I decided to upgrade to something like the Creek 5350SE. Tony
Wharfedale Pacific Evo 10 Opinions
Goinbroke,Thanks for your input. I've seen two different reviews that mentioned the weak mids of the PI-10. One of the reviews covered the whole PI family and said that ONLY the PI-10 had this problem, so apparently it was a poorly designed cabine...
$250-$400 CD player recommendations?
I second Mark on the Sony 222ES. There have been some good factory close-out deals on this one. I got mine for around $380 with shipping. The Absolute Sound recently recommeded this one. Supposedly it can be moded if you decide later to invest mor...
HIP Early Music on SACD
Thanks for this list! One more to add:Ensemble Galilei--From the Isles to the Courts (Telarc). If you like the Baltimore Consort, you should dig these ladies. My only complaint about the recording is that the producer laid the reverb on a bit thic...
Triangle Titus 202 + SS amp=???
I'll add the Axioms to my short list. Heck, the Boston Cherry ones match my furniture! :-) Do they do a good job of reproducing acoustic guitars?I have the Sony 222ES SACD/CD player. Tony
