Question about speaker configuration with current preamp/amp
I find it hard to believe the Mark Levinson would need the standard setting since that monster should have oodles of available current.  My suggestion is to experiment with both and see which setting you prefer.   Remember, once the math is done, ...
Vibration Meter.....
Can  you tell how accurate the app is on your phone?  If it is repeatable and linear, you can use it for relative measurements rather than absolute ones.  Relative measurements should be fairly accurate.  I'd be real suspect of absolute measuremen...
Off grid digital music
I had some horrible internet issues here at the house.   Although we live in an urban area, the local DSL provider gave lousy service and was getting worse week by week.   Until we got a new service, I was able to get T-Mobile to setup my cell pho...
room shape
Actually, you can follow some basic concepts from speaker cabinet design books!   The idea is to keep non integer relationships between the six walls.   This way no given standing wave is re-enforced.  Note that solid walls reflect bass while the ...
Help me decide on phono preamp
I believe Agrippa is right.  Save up to make a really good preamp purchase.  The smaller the signal, the more impact good quality electronics will have.  The signal doesn't get much smaller than phono!
Amp experience
@kfz03110:  After rereading your original post, I realize what you are really asking about is the crest factor of music.   Crest factor is a term used in physics to define the maximum ratio of RMS voltage to peak voltage.  For example, for a pure ...
WANTED - Infinity Quantum Line Soure One, QLS1, Q1's
That was one heck of a speaker!   Good luck finding one.
Do USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 use the same power BUS?
USB 3.0 is compatible with USB 2.0.   So, you can plug 2.0 into 3.0 and it will work properly.  3.0 however, gives the designer a lot more power options, up to 100W of power transfer.   Here is a good description of USB 3.0 power: https://www.all...
A problem with AC Power you may not have considered.
That Furman is a good looking unit, I'd buy it if I had $3100 to spend on line isolation and conditioning.   At least it has very good specs!
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
@jea48  - "Well designed"  what does that mean?   If you look at the power cords out there, they all have widely differing design concepts.   If you had a power cord that intrinsically attenuated noise say 40+ dB from 30KHz out to 1 GHz while havi...
Amp experience
kosst_amojan - I know how logs work, what I don't know is whether ktz03110 does.   Consider this, the 10*log(10) of 20 is 13 dB, 10*log(10) of 200 is 23 dB.   That an increase of 10:1 in power.  Another way to look at it is if music is running 20W...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
Please explain how the noise of the switching of a full wave rectifier in a power supply can pass back through the primary winding of the power transformer and through the power cord and end up on the AC mains. I can answer this question - wha...
Discovering I may have the cleanest AC power in USA
Yes, please do.  I'd like to see how you implemented that.
Joule VZN-100 users: Are you keeping the amp plugged in at all times?
I'd call the company and see if you can talk to the engineer / designer.   S/he will have opinions on this to be sure.   They can tell you where the trade-off is between shutdown and simply leaving them on.   It isn't just the hours of idle time b...
Amp experience
Well, the additional power means those music peaks won't be clipped.   For example, if your speakers are pulling 20W and a 10:1 peak comes along, a 200W amp can handle it nicely and probably a bigger peak than that.   A 100W amplifier will clip th...
