REL subs hook up
What Al describes is how I have my two Stadium subs hooked up, with Red and Yellow to the Red terminial. The recomended CD is the soundtrack from "Sneakers", which I use myself. I got it used on Amazon. Download the REL set up info from the Sumico...
Gamut Speakers....Anyone? Hello?
I have the L5s and am very happy with them; there is a pair currently on Audiogon. The truth is there apparently were not many pairs of the L series in the US; I bought mine with no audition based on extensive research. I considered applying for a...
Biwire jumpers as speaker cables?
If they are long enough, yes. I have some 1 M Siltech F 12 ribbons that I have used both for mono blocks and jumpers. My 3" 14 gauge solid silver wire, not so much. Since I have seen everything from bell wire to welding cable used by someone somew...
VPI JMW 10.5 mounting question
If the arm is mounted the correct distance from the spindle then any universal protractor should work. Dedicated ones like the Mint are suppose to do an even better job but are expensive. You can download ones from sites like Vinyl Engine free.
Best neutral aes/ebu cable for transport - DAC
I use to have Transparent Reference and it was very good but I paid $700 for it used for 1.5 M so it is not inexpensive. I would also buy used; I recently bought an Oyaide silver cable on here for $150 with WBT plugs. It is avalable on ebay new fo...
Tonearm Geometry and Setup
I thought that these were the product of the width of the record, which is a constant, the length of the tone arm, which varies, and the chosen formula [Loftgren etc] for producing the least distortion. This would appear to offer zero degrees of f...
Do you understand your amplifier?

DENON DL-304. Is it the bargain sound or not?
DB electronics still make their kit which containes a selection of resistors and 2 Y connectors. Good for those who don't like to solder.
Pwr Cord Upgrade for PS Audio Pwr Plant Premiere?
I am using a previous generation heavy gauge PS cable that works very well; PS says that the better the cable the better the results. I have Oyaide outlets and 2 dedicated lines and it still made a big improvement. Mine does sound softer with it b...
Are there any advantages to mc over mm?
Use whichever sounds better; high output MCs are intended to be used with MM inputs in most cases as the additional gain in not needed and a good rule of thumb is to use no more gain than you need. However; there are always exceptions and yours mi...
DENON DL-304. Is it the bargain sound or not?
It would be worse in my opinion. I have had several 304s and never found them bright. On the other hand 2 of my friends have the Technics table and I find them bright. The AT 150 has a reputation for being agressive on the top end so I would look ...
P.S. Audio Quintet? Worthwhile?
HIFICRITIC found that the Duet was not as good sounding as the Quintet, although they had expected no difference.
Probably a dumb DAC question
From my experence with the Focal Titanium tweeter, I had Mini Utopias and my friend has Wilson Sasha, I would stay away from "hot" sounding DACs. You might look at the new Rega DAC, it has a choice of several filters which make slight differences ...
Speakers with wide listening window
Try crossing the axis of the tweeters somewhere ahead of where you will be listening; the closer to the speakers they are crossed the broader the area of listening but as in most things expermentation is necessary. May help, if not you have no exp...
Golden Reference VS Golden Cross
There are three of us in the area who use GR speaker cables and we all have quite different systems: mine is Gamut speakers with Audia pre and CJ 350, another is Wilson Sasha with Lamm electronics, the third is AvauntGuard Horns with BAT pre and c...
