Upgrading from Wilson Sophia 2's?
I agree with Blindjim. What you've assembled has uber-resolution, and it's revealing all the flaws in your recordings, as well as any problems in the signal chain.Perhaps you need to rethink your goal and the equipment required to achieve it.
Refrigerator noise
Unsound, I agree the ice maker design and placement is not good. I appreciate your comments. Discussing flaws is very helpful.Hopefully, the latch issue has been corrected in the two years since you purchased yours. Otherwise, an extended warranty...
Refrigerator noise
Unsound, having waded deep into the appliance quagmire, I am convinced there isn't a single model or brand of fridge that doesn't have its detractors. The particular LG model we have identified fulfills most of our needs, including counter depth, n...
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
Digital's silence sounds dead to me (not to mention the hiss).Chashmal (System | Threads | Answers)The comment regarding hiss is curious.I have not experienced hiss from any of the digital players I have owned that was attributable to anything oth...
speaker cables for Usher BE10
Putting aside the name calling for a moment...As a customer of Johngp, and as a KCI Silkworms owner, my experience has been that John's products are on par with many of the high end interconnects made by the big name cable companies, and John's se...

Jimjoyce25, thanks.I've been researching refrigerators for three months, and I've read customer reports and other reports from many sources.FWIW, if you read comments from actual owners of the top rated Consumer Reports refrigerators, you will fin...

My wife and I are sensitive to fridge noise, and we're shopping for a new one. Here's a website that discusses quiet appliances.Based on the info there, and on customer reviews, we are purchasing an LG brand fridge.
Suitable tube preamp for pass labs x250
08-18-09: AtmasphereTvad, the output impedance of the MP-1 is closer to 30 ohms, not 350.Thanks very much for correcting the record. I didn't check the specs as I normally do, and I was going off memory of all the discussions regarding the 600 ohm...
Suitable tube preamp for pass labs x250
Atma-Sphere MP-1 MK III was a good match with my XA-60.5 even though the output impedance is higher than 350 ohms.An even better match was a Lamm L2 Reference, but it's not a tube linestage. An ARC Ref3 was lackluster with the XA-60.5, IMO.
Output impedence for Cary slp98
Stereophile's Measurements section is where to find the real world, most useful impedance specifications. In their review of the Cary SLP-98, John Atkinson states in his measurements:The output impedance in the midrange and treble was usefully low,...
Suitable tube preamp for pass labs x250
I suggest looking for a preamp with an output impedance of 350 ohms or less (lower the better, IMO), and with a differential balanced design. Pass Labs work best with lower output impedances, and Pass Labs suggests running them balanced.Check the ...

Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
Almarg makes an excellent point. I had no problem listening to rock or most jazz LPs with occasional ticks and pops. However, classical music was intolerable to me on vinyl because of the surface noise.
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
IMO, there are too many subjective variables in audio to proclaim absolutes that apply to every system and every listener.Digital and analog each have their benefits and problems.Noisy vinyl is a problem inherent in the medium. Some listeners can ...

I found my audiophile approved carbon brush moved dust around rather than removing it.I preferred using Pledge Allergen Dust Wipes. They're dry. No chemicals or fluid. They pick up the dust really well.
