Life without a remote
I don't use a remote. I have no problem with not having one. However, after reading the OP's original post, it does not appear he is a candidate for going without one.
Are there any 6H30's with a sweet upper midrange?
Any change in tonality with a 6H30 based preamp will depend on the circuit and power supply design, rather than the specific tube.Even then, the 6H30 tube and 6H30 based designs will all sound neutral, (i.e. solid state).Short answer, there are 6H...
Which would you pick between these 2 and why?
Well, IMO, the Bryston has more detail, but the McCormack has less grain. Always a trade-off...I'm sure you're aware the McCormack can be upgraded by Steve.
Confused by ICE applications
11-04-08: Wonderful_electricIs it just me or Icepower amps...sound more hyper-detailed than graceful and relaxed. Wonderful_electric (Answers)It's not just you. I completely agree.
Best sounding HDCD player??
The APL Denon 3910 decodes HDCD and sounds exceptional. Used machines are selling for near give-away prices. If the Denon laser assembly reads discs OK, then there should be no other service issues with an APL Denon player...
The best CD Player for the money
stay clear of the denon 3910--lazor goes bad and it is $550 for the parts.Fdcliff (Threads | Answers)According to this supplier, the laser assembly for a Denon 3910 is $140.29.
Need to replace my Totem Acoustic Arros
I listened to the Harbeth HL Compact 7ES-3 today and I was BLOWN away by the sheer musicality it provided. Organic to the core. I might have found my perfect loudspeaker!Baroque_lover (Threads | Answers)What amplifier was driving them?Be sure you ...
SCD-777ES or SCD-1
I'm at a loss for having not heard the APL/Denon, but if it gets close to the big boys that I mentioned, then that underscores the value proposition of modding. Dgarretson (System | Threads | Answers)That depends on one's definition of modding. AP...
SCD-777ES or SCD-1
Well, I'd be willing to lay odds a used, previous generation APL Denon 3910 for $2500 (or less) would be at least equal, if not surpass, the modded SCD-1. In addition, the APL could function as a DAC for an additional source with a digital output,...
Sibilence in one channel means?
I tried reducing antiskate upon the suggestion of a few others here. Doing so made a significant impact reducing sibilance in one channel.
Amp upgrade for 2 Ce Sig II
The Belles 150A Reference were used as monoblocks in my system. They were authoritative and resolving with a refined top end. They sounded terrific. The amp used in its stereo version lost some of the resolution, and the result was a smaller image...
SCD-777ES or SCD-1
I see your point, Dgarretson. What currently produced CD/SACD players would you say are sonically on par with a modded 777ES, and how much do you believe a mod would cost to bring the 777ES up to the performance of one of these player? That's the r...
Amp upgrade for 2 Ce Sig II
I'd go with the McCormack, and I'll bluntly state why.I owned two Belles 150A Reference amps, which both sounded excellent. The problem was that they both had buzzing transformers, and after paying Dave $300 to check them out, they still buzzed. H...
SCD-777ES or SCD-1
If you want a player that sounds comparable to a modded SCD-1, then buy the current production player. Modding the SCD-1 will destroy it's collectible value, which at this point is the primary reason to purchase one.IMO.
Turntable selection advise
As far as the three you have listed, I find no enduring quality in any of those. Ferrari (System | Reviews | Threads | Answers)The Technics SL1200 design has been around since the early 1970s when records were king. IMO, that's about as enduring a...
