Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Grannyring, would you please describe the type of sound you prefer in your system, i.e. clean and neutral (transparent), or colored and less transparent but with a somewhat warmer tonality?
Generic Record Cleaning Solutions
Unfortunately, you must only use audiophile record cleaning solutions sold at 1000% mark-ups. You definitely cannot use readily available isopropyl alcohol, or Sporicidin Enzyme Mold Cleaner ($32/ quart makes 16 gallons of cleaner), or a $3.99 3M ...
Review: Denon DL-110 Cartridge
02-06-07: FerrariYes on the Denons, the stylus cannot be replaced. However it can be sent in on trade for another Denon DL 110 or DL 160.Thank you.Impossible to compare the Denon to the Shure as the Denon is Moving Coil and the Shure is Moving Mag...
Review: Denon DL-110 Cartridge
I'm new to this, so please bear with me. Do I understand correctly that the Denon DL-110 and DL-160 styli cannot be replaced, and that one must instead purchase an entirely new Denon cartridge once the stylus wears out? Also, can anyone offer a son...
No Audiophiles in Hollywood
02-05-07: DrewyouIn "The Departed", Matt Damon's wife loads a CD or was it a cassette into an all-McIntosh system. One clue to Damon's character's hidden payola...

Keep what you have and add a $500 MHDT Lab Paradisea DAC to use in concert with your Pioneer.
Tube pre-amps $3500 under to add "warmth"
You can eliminate the Modwright. I owned it. Its sound is close to solid state, and it is definitely not warm.In its place you can add the Lamm LL2 Deluxe.

The Best Midrange in the World Right Now
I don't believe it's possible for the average audiophile to distinguish between true transparency and apparent transparency in an unfamiliar system. I believe it'd take me, an average audiophile, many many months of listening and comparing compone...
The Best Midrange in the World Right Now
Transparency is not the same as detail according to audio glossaries. A transparent component will neither add nor subtract from the signal. It will be transparent. What you describe is the antithesis of transparency. It is coloration with a goal ...
The Best Midrange in the World Right Now
I can't grasp the concept of sacrificing transparency for accuracy. Since transparency is defined as a lack of coloration, it is then also closer to accuracy than a colored, less transparent component. One begets the other.
improving digital amp sound
If you have to buy a tubed preamp to try your experiment, I'd suggest not doing so. It's not gonna get you where you want to go. Find some new amps. Digital amps are like Twiggy, or Paris Hilton. No curves. Tube amps are more like women with curve...
Can you imagine a world without vinyl?
It's sad that truly great analog reproduction can be experienced by so few, but I suppose it's the same with any hobby...cars, flyfishing, RC airplanes... Damn, I'm depressed.
Do i/c's on a component affect overall system ?
Some interconnects are directional and are indicated as such. Usually the directionality is determined by the ground being connected at one end of the IC and not at the other. Installing these backwards can cause a hum in the system even if the co...
Can you imagine a world without vinyl?
If you wish to argue on the basis of absolute quality, cost no object, then LP wins. I find it interesting that those that argue against LP are always the ones that want to economize.Absolutely. I can say without hesitation that my Yugo analog rig...
