Any VAC Phi 30/30 Owner's?
The VAC Standard LE is a good suggestion. I use a Lamm LL2 Deluxe with my VAC Phi 110/110. The LL2 Deluxe runs around $2500-$3000 used. Add another $500 for some NOS tubes.
Does "Fast" = "Detailed"?
05-25-06: Jaybodoes 'detailed'='forward'?.....as far as warm, fast and detailed, i default to the two out of three rule....any combination of the two but never all three.Like having contracting work done. Good, fast and cheap. Pick any two. You can...
Power Cord Flavors
05-25-06: LeanbeanTvad, I own many power cords which lead me to the conclusion that they all carried a certain sonic colour to which we preferred, weather they are in "warm and full bodied" or "Neutral, clear and extended"...we add a different son...
Conservative Politics & Rock Music
05-25-06: NrchyTvad there you go again with your wilfull ignorance. Huh?BTW, my comment about not listening and comprehending song lyrics is equally applicable to attendees of liberal political rallies. This irony about not listening to lyrics alwa...
Power cord for tubed cdp
I own a tubed CD player, and I would experiment with the aforementioned RSA Poiema!!!, DCCA Extreme Reference (or Don's latest top-of-the-line cord), and Purist Audio Dominus Ferrox and/or Fluid. I prefer the Dominus Fluid, but the Fewrrox is more...
Perreaux or Bryston?
Bryston. I've owned both brands. Performance, reliability, warranty, cutomer service, re-sale value...all favor Bryston.
Conservative Politics & Rock Music
05-25-06: JimburgerTo quote the article in NA on "Won't Get Fooled Again":"The conservative movement is full of disillusioned revolutionaries; this could be their theme song, an oath that swears off naive idealism once and for all."Conservatives s...
Conservative Politics & Rock Music
I agree, Jimburger, but I also think reading the National Review article, and specifically the comments about "Won't Get Fooled Again" might be in order, simply because it's hard for me to believe anyone who knows anything about that song would co...
PAD Venustas
05-25-06: PeterdI bought new the 'Venustas'xlr ic's, and 'Dominus with Ferox' power cords.Thinking they would be my last cable changes.Has all been replaced by "Nirvana S-X".Much better in all aspects and in whatever adjectives you use to compare ...
dac chip vs analog stage as to sonic impact
05-25-06: EldartfordTvad...Checking the APL website I notice that the DACs which they use for the update are AKM. That's what I have in my Behringer DAC2496 which may be why it sounds good.APL previously used Crystal DACs, which sounded excellent....
Does "Fast" = "Detailed"?
Puremusic, that is a nice explanation worth bookmarking. Thanks.Gunbei, I believe your point has merit. Personally, I have never heard a rolled off system that seemed fast or detailed, though. To me, it's the attack of the notes that brings realis...
Conservative Politics & Rock Music
Years from now, The New Republic will publish a list of the top 50 all time liberal rap songs. There won't be one from a non-black rapper (OK...maybe one from the Beastie Boys). Turnabout is fair play.
dac chip vs analog stage as to sonic impact
Few, if any, MODs involve new DAC chips.Eldartford (Reviews | Threads | Answers)You can start a list of MODs that involve new DAC chips with APL players. New DACs have been the starting point of APL mods since the APL Philips SACD1000. The new DAC...
Does "Fast" = "Detailed"?
Every "fast" system that I have heard (as described by others) has been detailed, clear and without bloom. None have been what I'd consider warm and inviting. One or two have been cold, clinical and I could not listen for more than about an hour b...
Does "Fast" = "Detailed"?
Gregadd, my observations tend to corroborate your comments.
