neutrality vs. realism
Yes, yes, can we take a break now?
What are you thankful for?
Haven't seen any hijacking on this thread. Is there something I'm missing?
What are you thankful for?
Amen, Bufus!
Will an entry level Project or MusicHall be enough
See my response in your other thread.
Any ideas on a good used "starter" table?
I think that the older Thorens TTs are very good, but I am not too wild about their tonearms. Any way you look at it, the under $200 market is not going to get you into analog nirvana, but you could get a pretty good sound. If I was going to do it,...
What is a "transmission line" speaker?
Sean, here is a link with the dimensions that I used. This guy made some for an 8" driver, and then put a cover over the hole, and used some 4" instead. BTW, the "wings" he uses have no resemblance to the "wings" I used. Mine are "swinging doors" ...
Rega P25 Tonearm Lift
It's all over this website. If you look through the archives, I'm sure you'll come up with plenty of references to the "dreaded Grado hum" when used with Rega TT's. The Grado cartridges are highly susceptible to hum fields, and the Rega TTs have t...

2 out of 3 have hum problems.
SME V/309 Tonearms With LP12 or VPI MKIII
The newer SME arms have a fairly heavy base section which could set the Linn suspension off balance. I don't know for sure because I haven't tried it. Some of the heavier arms have had trouble with Linns. The SME's are very good arms though.
Output voltage of Denon 103
Well, I don't know exactly what the gain is on the SP-9 phono stage, but if it's too low, you could always get a step up transformer for it. The DL103 is low output.I have just done some looking around at some sites that had the Project 6.1 on the...
Rega P25 Tonearm Lift
If this is an older P25, you may have to replace the silicone fluid in the cueing device, but I really don't think that any P25s are old enough for that yet. You might try putting some thin strips of velcro on the arc-shaped piece that lifts the a...
Tickled Pink. Make that Aquamarine
I've had a number of mine go down that way. Well, at least this one didn't :^)
How can an active preamp possibly help?
Because many passive pre's cause an impedance mismatch with the output of the CD player, and the input of the amplifier. This causes frequency rolloff problems, and increased distortion. With an active preamp, the inputs and outputs have impedance...
Output voltage of Denon 103
The standard DL103 has an advertised output of .3mv, and the DL103R has an advertised output of .25mv. I have had a DL103(standard) that had the .3mv output, and I currently have a DL103R that has a .27mv output which is slightly higher than adver...
Box speakers that sound like Electrostats?
My experience with single-driver speakers has led me to the opinion that they can be very close to electrostats for speed, transparency, and imaging. The point-source nature of these single drivers, is about the best for imaging, and the very ligh...
