| which older /used preamp for phono stage ??? I use an early 90s vintage MFA Magus with some mods, which has about 46db gain in the phono stage. It has 20db gain in the linestage. It has an excellent phono stage that is highly regarded for its price range(under $1500) new. All tube, except th... | |
| AR XB Hum Sounds like it could very likely be some kind of ground issue. I'd check all grounds and connections, and it wouldn't hurt to ground it like you mentioned. Also, keep all signal lines well away from any power cables or power supply transformers. | |
| Stereo Tube Amp Comparisons David Berning ZH-270. Berning probably has the best reliability reputation in the business. The resale value is usually better than 75% of the new price. The amp is auto biasing, so no biasing headaches. The circuit is designed to extend tube life... | |
| Shelter and Linn.Ekos? The Shelter cartridges should work fine with the Ekos. The Linn arm designs came from back when the Linn cartridges were about the same compliance as the new Shelter and Koetsu are now. They should work well together. | |
| DIY stylus-cleaning magic long I've tried Doug's stylus cleaning system, and it works very well. You have to be careful, but he has already warned about that, and you have to be careful any way you clean a stylus.I don't think that Doug is trying to change anyone's way of doing... | |
| Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Zaikesman, because if it is not, it will cause the tonearm to have a lateral force applied in the direction of the heavier weight, like an anti-skating adjustment. I have read arguments from others that this is impossible and physics dictate that ... | |
| Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Johnnantais, I think you will like it. This mod is just like the types of things you like to do: cheap, easy, and effective. I like those kinds of mods too! I made the mods for my tonearm and a DL103 cartridge with 12gram weights on each side, for... | |
| What arms will successfully mount on a Linn LP12?? Any Linn tonearm or a Naim Aro are good on an LP12. | |
| Best tonearm under $1500.00 low-mid mass How about a Morch tonearm? They are very nice, and have interchangeable wands for matching to various cartridges. They look great and sound great, and are in your price range. I like the DP-6 best. | |
| MC or MM? In a MM(moving magnet) cartridge, the coils are in the cartridge body and the magnets are on the end of the cantilever, moving around. In a MC(moving coil) cartridge, the coils are on the end of the cantilever, and the magnets are in the cartridge... | |
| Denon DL300, 304 I've used the DL103 on RB250 and RB300 and they will work. However, they are not optimal in that setting, and would really benefit from some additional lateral mass. The HiFi mod is a huge improvement on a a Rega/DL103 combo. If you don't want to ... | |
| Berning ZH 270 and Power conditioning If you have low voltage lighting in the room, with ballasts in them, they might be sending out hash onto the line. They are notorious for doing this. Try to determine which lights that you have on when this noise occurs. | |
| Tok20000 is going pro Congratulations Keith! Good luck. I found making the transition very enlightening, to say the least. | |
| Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long Bombaywalla, thanks for your report on your HiFi mod.Another satisfied user. This also works just as well on any Rega tonearm.Where are all you Rega guys? After 2 years of testing on dozens of tonearms of various types, and various cartridges, with ... | |
| Purist Audio & Stereophile There could be many reasons why certain products get articles and awards and others don't. However, one thing is for certain. None of these reviewers or magazines have heard every piece of gear out there. So, therefore, you cannot place as much im... |
