Affordable Japanese LOMCs--Recommendations?
Johnny, they sound different, but I don't know if there is much giving up to be done. The 103 has a very full midbass and an extended and prominent deeper bass, but only in a high mass arm. This conceit is very finely balanced by a very nicely dev...
high output cartridge for vpi scout
Macdadtexas, sorry that I was not clear on my Soundsmith recommendation. I was not recommending the muy expensive strain gauge cartridges that do require an outboard box, but the Soundsmith moving iron cartridges, which are compatible with convent...

That link does not work for me. You can send the pictures direct to my personal e-mail through the Audiogon system or repost a link? Shocked that there would be electrolytic caps in the signal path, but if true, Johnss gives the correct advice.Bes...

Are you sure that you have 100uF caps in the signal path? That too seems an unlikely possiblity. Are they electrolytic or film? What are the markings on them? 100uF film caps are pretty large and putting an electrolytic in the signal path is prett...

"Douchebaggery"! Why sir, I resemble that remark.

I have owned two sample of the 301 and still own a 103 and a 103D, and the choice depends totally on the effective mass of your tonearm. If it is over 11 grams 103, under 11 grams 301.

12000uF caps are very unlikey to be in the signal path. In all likelihood these are the electrolytic storage caps in the power supply. I think that you are trying to replace the wrong thing.
Klipsch Heritage Series
It seems somehow one dimensional to think of the Klipsch drivers as low technology and not address the technology of the horn itself. Using a tapered horn to match the impedance of the driver with that of the surrounding air is, IMHO, the highest ...
"Light Loading" Amps - Music Refence and others...
What does sound quality have to do with reliability? That's what Ralph may want to address. The RM-9s sounded great, when they worked. That's why I took a chance on the second one. Likewise The RM-10 sounds great, as well as the SA-9. But it is un...
"Light Loading" Amps - Music Refence and others...
"Yes, a genius designed it."Sometimes design and execution are different things. The same genius designed the RM-9 amp, and the Counterpoint OTL amps, if memory serves. I'll let Ralph address the particulars of the OTLs. I owned two of the origina...
"Light Loading" Amps - Music Refence and others...
I would side with Ralph's views, but I don't know if that applies to the RM-10. There is clearly something going on with that amp that allows it to output 35 watts from a pair of EL84s when no other amp is even close to the figure. In fact, there ...

What isn't mentioned is that the lower impedance taps have higher damping factor, and should your speakers require greater damping, you may find using the lower impedance taps improves bass transient response. That's just one reason to always try ...

What Product Did You Overspend On?
I think that the question that you are asking is quite confusing. I only purchase used gear and when I am looking for something specific that is either made in small quantities, or is in demand, I am happy to overspend on it. Even by paying over m...
