Burn-in time Vs. Getting used to a sound
Thanks to all for your thoughts. I feel that burn/break-in is real for the most part..and have heard it in audio gear. ...and, of course, felt it in baseball gloves..and sports cars. At the same time I know that I can want something to be some way...
Cable TV causing system ground problems!
I think some of the suggestions above are worth the try.. It seems that the ground form the Cable TV feed is usually the concern...usually DC voltage on the Cable ground. If you look at the info that comes with the Monster power strip series...lik...
Integrated tube amplifier - finest ?
I really don't have experience with all of the ones that you mention...but the one that I have owned...is superb, the VAC Avatar. It also has an excellent phono stage...worth the look and listen.
Top Ten Turntables of All Time??
Townshend Audio Rock III. A bit of an unknown..but compared to the mega buck units I've had...it just retrieves more info.
Cable TV causing system ground problems!
Sfbaydude: I was speaking of cable TV/internet/FM..but not the 75 ohm coax lead from an external FM antenna. It is good that your cable TV input is not causing any concerns with your hi-fi system. Cable TV need not have ground concerns...but often...
Cable TV causing system ground problems!
It does, and you're right. I am not a big TV fan..and am a big music fan..so I have just kept the two seperate.
The fallacy of ac treatment
Sorry to say the same thing over and over again..in these threads that come up. But quite simply, any and all pieces of wire act an antenna, and there is no bigger antenna in ones home than the yards and yards of AC wire. Any audio component, well...
The fallacy of ac treatment
As a P.S. to the above. It may be that this topic has become as "hot" as it seems to be, because of home theater. The addition of a cable feed into an audio system can cause concerns...most are in the ground and RF/EMI areas.
The fallacy of ac treatment
Water is an excellent point. Filtering city water is a good idea.
The fallacy of ac treatment
Sometimes the point is missed. Audio components have power supplies that change the incomming AC into various voltages of DC. The major concerns with the incomming AC are not about it being 59 or 62 cps(HZ for the youngsters). EMI and RF are real ...
Crown Amplifier for Advent 300
DeKay: good question....but if we start messing around with room acoustics.... Of course there is always double large Advents (do the Walnut ones sound better than the vinyl?), not to mention mounting a Heil driver, from an AMT-1, on the top.
Crown Amplifier for Advent 300
I had not mentioned above, that in the 70's I had used the Advent 300 with (Mr. THX himself) the Holman amp and the Large advents...and had also tried the Yamaha B-2 FET unit. Too long ago to say how good it was or wasn't.
POWER: conditioners vs filters vs cords
This is in response to some of the above people and their ground problems. Beware of cable TV and cable computer feeds. Almost all cable TV and cable internet feeds have serious ground problems...usually DC on the ground. If you are using cable in...
Preamp for Classe CA400 and Confidence 5
I agree with the tube pre-amp suggestions. I had used the Classe amp with a C-J ART...and it was just superb. I think any of the better C-J for the 14 on are worth a listen...as are several Audio Research models.
Crown Amplifier for Advent 300
Actually the Advent 300 is very good as a pre-amp, and if the Large Advent tweeters and woofers are in good shape..or if the woofers have been re-coned...both are worth using a more modern power amp with. Check out various Bryston, Classe and othe...
