| Who makes the highest quality tube amps? I use a tube power amp because it has a characteristic that most well regarded solid state amps claim to have: It's "tube like." | |
| Jazz for aficionados I think the sax is tawdry, and leads to unwanted pregnancies. This is why I currently prefer piano trios. | |
| Subsonic filter noise?? Although considered unhip in audiophillia, I use a subsonic filter for my Basik/Akito rig. Cambridge 640P (with a Pangea power supply). It works really well, stops the tawdry woofer flapping, and sounds great. Does that make me a bad person? | |
| Jazz for aficionados In respnse to that last asshat post...oh...wait...that was me...anyway...after working on an amazing concert by the Jeremy Pelt Quintet (man...) recently, a well regarded veteran jazz pro sax player I know said after the show, "Miles was better." ... | |
| Is it all in my head? As a humble and simple man, my approach is to keep things that sound good and change things that sound bad. Or change them because I feel like it. Or not. Please be like me. Thank you. | |
| Jazz for aficionados Regarding why I think the way I do: I've been a professional musician since the late 60s (only mentioned for historical perspective). I've actually seen Monk (opening for Peter Paul and Mary at the Hollywood Bowl...I was maybe 12!)...and Joe Lovan... | |
| Jazz for aficionados Although being mired in the past is not atypical of jazz heads, I offer some current faves: Brad Mehldau kills me, as well as Bill Charlap's trio (I mixed one of their live shows recently)...John Scofield, Frisell's "Beautiful Dreamers" band are o... | |
| balanced preamp Although MANY great designers don't care about balanced operation (Conrad Johnson, etc.), I do. The solidity of XLR connections and the low noise/impedence has served me well in pro audio, and I was wondering aloud (here) about what was out there ... | |
| Tube upgrades for Jolida 502B? I have no way of measuring the output of my 502p, but I will say the amp with 120s seems to have a bit more headroom, and can play plenty loud in its designated space seemingly effortlessly...I never feel like I "need" more juice. New amps utilizi... | |
| Tube upgrades for Jolida 502B? There has to be an easier way...I assume a qualified tech could put a switch in there to join the input signals, and "Underwood Wally" has been claiming the 120 watt mono spec for a while so that could make for an interesting call. | |
| Who makes the highest quality tube amps? My Jolida was playing some small Jazz combo music one day and I ran into the room thinking a live band had broken into my house. Turns out, they had, so I had them arrested and taken away. | |
| General question about Linn Axis I found the right cartridge for my Basik/Akito rig after some experimenting...a Sumiko Pearl. Don't let the low ($125) price put you off as this thing is AMAZING, especially after 20 or so hours of break-in, and run it close to 2 grams. Also, I ea... | |
| Tube upgrades for Jolida 502B? The 502p supposedly generates 120 watts in mono, and I suggest a call to Jolida to find out how to make that work. | |
| Square room Soundstage?? Put furniture in the room, get a carpet or rug, and move the speakers around until they sound better to YOU. Done. | |
| Tube upgrades for Jolida 502B? I do wonder how long the 120s are supposed to last as I've been driving mine hard for about a year and they've stayed absolutely stable, unlike myself. |
