I'm sure VPI accepts that many of their tables, especially the higher end ones, use tonearms that are not VPI. They have a great reputation for service. Give them a call, or email.
How to go about getting a new arm board for a new tonearm
I have a VPI TNT Jr. with the upgraded motor, super platter, motor controller, 10 inch JMW arm, peripheral ring. It sounds decent enough but I hate the tonearm. (The wobbly unipivot - just fed up with the design). I would not get another VPI arm. My question is, I have the VPI table with the rectangular arm board. How do I go about getting a new arm board for a new tonearm? I'd like a Tri-Planer or a Graham but not sure who to look at to get the armboard. I doubt VPI would send me an armboard for another manufacturers arm. I would love some direction.

Just an fyi, my first response from VPI was to call my dealer. After badgering the woman and letting her know my dealer would rather sell me the $5,000 arm instead of the $150 tonearm board, someone got on the phone and said I can take a photo of my table and email it to them. I asked for his email and was told "info@vpi.... not even an individual email so I can get to the guy I spoke with. |

It sounds decent but just no light at the end of the customer service tunnel with Matt at the helm.Yes, cerrot, we know from your multiple posts that you don't like VPI customer service. What's so odd is that so many VPI owners cite the company for its exceptional customer service and support. Myself included. Which leads me to wonder - are the "problems" you claim with VPI to be blamed on the company ... or the user? |
Sort of an extension of what Nandric said. If no satisfaction from VPI, find a good machinist, tell him what material you want for your armboard, give him your present armboard for sizing, and let him make it. Good choices are acrylic, delrin, aluminum, or brass. While you're at it, and as an economy measure, you might get several arm boards made. Push come to shove, you can sell them to other owners of the same VPI turntable and recoup your expense. |

@cerrot well now I have a better understanding for your posts from a different thread. Send me an email at mat@vpiindustries.com and I'll get you a TNT armboard. We have the specs for Graham mounting but if it is for Tri-Planar we would need that info. I'll ignore the last post you made since if I was in your spot I would be pretty pissed also. @jaybe sorry about whatever I missed, feel free to reach out to me again (I'm not sure who you are in my email) if you are still having a problem with your turntable. |
