When System Improvements Are Marginal
The change introduced by the new component better be obvious. If not obvious - the component might still be very good, and might make a significant difference in a different system, but is not helping you at this time. You might realize its benefi...
Boise, Idaho
New to Boise as well (of sf bay area transplant). More interested in ancillaries (cables and such) than electronics.
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
@Jea48 - when talking about electrons in motion physics calls it current and not wave. The EM wave terminology is usually reserved for radiation. However, we agree - is not "the" electron at the source that runs down the wire to pass on the inform...
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
@WillieWonka - Thank you for the summary, makes sense for practical use. I continue being suspicious about the arrows, but I understand and agree with your explanation: some of the reasons are legit. Thanks.@Jea48 - Yes, the audio signal is brough...
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
oh - I read that thread... turned out awful.
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
Jea48 - yes... seems that the question is not new. I should have looked at prior art before starting a new tread. Bummer.
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
Umm... no, I'd be surprised to find that we purposefully rectify audio signals. That would, as you indicate, keep electrons moving in one direction only, while folding one phase over the other with a couple of diodes (or cutting out one phase alto...
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
Geoff - hmm. The information flows in one direction (from source to receiver, as Czarivey kindly sketched out for us), with an alternating flow of electrons (back and forth, or forth and back depending on the phase) as carrier. No carrier, no info...
Anything wrong with PS Audio DirectStream DACs?
Anyway - I understand that there is nothing wrong with them. Thank you all for the help.It seems that they are not providing enough of the expected value for some people either at the 500-hour burn-in mark or with the firmware upgrade.
Anything wrong with PS Audio DirectStream DACs?
Dear Aolmrd,Yes, that's funny. Thanks for sharing. Feel free to take a new Corvette home and return it on day 29 without penalty. Make sure you burn it in good.C.
Anything wrong with PS Audio DirectStream DACs?
Yea... well - the market is flooded with them. I'm sorry Pmotz, the "search for the latest and greatest" might be true (we all do that) but I don't see the (say) lampizator or even benchmark units being sold second-hand at fire-sale (and I bet tha...
Using TV as Audio Hub?
I'm doing the same. HDMI from all sources into the TV and digital out into Wadia. Indistinguishable from CDP direct digital, or laptop USB into said Wadia. The convenience and simplicity cannot be beat - especially with nothing lost in translation...
Power Cable Upgrade for Wadia 151
I have briefly tried BMI Whale Elite and PAD Proteus on my 151 - good to very good on class A or AB amps, but a tad clarity-limiting here. The standard cord it comes with is nothing special. However, an Audio Magic Xstream made a lot of difference...
Zu OMEN - hmm
Just a short note on this old thread... I still have the Omens in a side system, now driven by the Wadia Powerdac 151 through Slinkylinks speaker cables - but that's not the reason for writing. The reason is dust mites. If your room is in the real ...
Wadia 151 PowerDAC or Peachtree Nova for Zu?
My 2c on this old tread.I got a 151 this week. It has made my Zu Omens a bit more bearable. I found that the Wadia 151 responds to switching power cords, but it does so in a different way than the Krell KAV-300i it displaced. On Krell I found that...
