A Novices Impression of the Sony DVP-S9000ES
Enjoyed the RCD-855 as well but its been awhile. I remember I changed out the RCA plugs for better quality ones. Internally soldered very pure copper wire from board to plugs. Also, I believe I either changed out the power cord or added an IEC cha...
speaker wire termination
At the amp end, alot has to do what will the amp binding post accept. Most all will accept a banana connector/bare wire. Not all will accept a spade. On nearly every one of my amps/int. amps I've changed out the binding posts. I like Superior Elec...
Speaker cables for NAD C356 and PSB Image B6
I order some Atlas "Equator MK II" spk. cables recently and they are superb. Very pure 6N copper 14ga. Can be order from England for a very reasonable price. I believe it was 5pds. for a Metre. (Bare wire) Shipping was around $10 and arrived in a ...
Best Powercord for a TV?
I went and got from a computer store a generic/standard 18 ga. SHIELDED power cord. It seemed to have made a difference from the unshielded version. In my case w/my TV (LG 42LD 520) the picture quality is superb. Don't feel the need to "upgraded" ...
Cambridge Topaz AM10 vs Yamaha AS300 vs Onkyo
If you're considering the A9050, it's $399 on Crutchfield. So, I'd get the Yamaha A S500 (it's $399 as well.) It appears to be a step up from the A S300. Different chassis, nearly 3 lbs heavier. More power. Also, it seems that the spk. binding pos...
need cable upgrade advice for Dali Mentors
I've owned PR's,VS's and TC's. All very fine cables. Recently commented on a previous post about Atlas Equator 2.0 spk. cables. For 5 pounds a meter bare wire, these are steller spk. cables. Very pure copper (6N) and very well constructed. IMO, th...
Interconnect recommendations, please
Recently I purchased some Atlas Equator 2.0 spk. cables from Futureshop.co.uk (also HifiCables.co.uk) and if their IC's are anything like their spk. cables. Oh my goodness. What fantastic spk. cables for a very reasonable cost. Very well construct...
Paradigm 11 v.5 - can you tell me about them?
Paradigm makes good loudspeakers. I own some Phantom Floorstanders (I think they're the V4 version) and they match extremely well w/my early 80's Sansui int. amp. It's all about how they sound to you. You could look into the 5 and 7's are well. Fo...
Looking to get started. please help
Very good points! Placement, room, electronis and many other factors involved. Buying used is a exc. way to save $, but if I were to buy a used set of floorstanders I'd look for the factory shipping cartons. Blookshelf spks. are easiler to ship an...
Looking to get started. please help
If you're looking for a floorstander you might consider the Magapan MMG's. There new and they would ship from the Magapan factory w/a trial period. I believe under $600. They would sound unlike any box spk! Bass output may be an issue depending on...
Looking to get started. please help
If you are looking for and Int. amp, there's an Arcam Alpha 8 for sale on Agon for $235. Another fantastic int. amp is an NAD 302, if you can find one. Matched w/the right spks. and other aux. equipment...pure musical pleasure. As far as Spks, the...
RS5s - upper or lower connections?
I'd say the upper set of binding posts. (For the tweeter) Whether you will hear a difference, I don't know. I guess it depends on how long you've been an "audiophile." :)
price point to move to separates vs integrated
I've owned my share of int. amps along the way (the most in cost around $1500). I will say my bought used $125(slightly modified) Rotel RB-951 amp paired w/a completely stock $65 Adcom Gtp-350 pre/tuner sonically destroys any int. amp costing many...
Help me put a system together for my son
The Brio is a very nice 49w int. amp which does have a good phono pre-amp built in, which used would be under $400. But no headphone jack. I personally have not tried but I would take a good look at the Marantz 6004. The NAD 326BEEE comes to mind ...
Integrated amp: jumpers versus cables
In my experience it will a difference, one I've always heard for the better. You should find a nice set for under $50. You could also make your own pair. Easy w/a little practice.
