Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Cleeds,It is not quite clear what you are saying here...You are the only person so far who claims to have measured it and obtained the result you describe. Was this a recent measurement i.e. did this phenomenon happen on your current system? If so,...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Dear HDM,Brilliant post! I didn’t even know this one existed!I know Werner from PFM and he is a very good guy. His knowledge of electronics, digital & analogue, is even more impressive. What is interesting about his measurements is that that th...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Lew,While I do not deny what you’ve said, remove the other supporting point, zero VTF so that it is balanced and floating freely, then the tonearm becomes analogous to the scale i.e. a stable balanced tonearm will behave in the same way.Your belie...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Lew,Pleased to oblige.Consider an old-fashioned set of weighing scales.- The pivot point is high- The CofG is below the pivot- the scales are stable, balancedNow if one of the pans is manually raised upwards then released, there will exist a resto...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
All 3 of you are wrong. If the C of G is below the pivot point (stable) then there will be a restorative force at the stylus.Have a good day.
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Cleeds,Stringreen has made no mistake.Unipivots are generally designed to be as stable as that configuration permits. This means that ”lowering the tail end” increases downforce not decreases it as you have suggested.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
One of the advantages of You Tube is that it allows comparisons without leaving the comfort of your armchair.Check this out...https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cwGmwBiVmgYPreviously I was against the idea of either re-tipping or buying 2nd hand carts ...

LOL! Careful Trav...Last time I used an expression such as “Positive” or “Negative VTA” on A’Gon I received a knuckle sandwich ;)I still enjoy using these expressions though. ;) :D :D

Opinion on SME 15
I think your Phantom would be great on the SME15 (although I’ve not heard the combination). When I bought the Phantom II it was either that or an SME V. I preferred the Phantom even though it was twice the price.Conrad Mas recommended that the Avi...

BTW the aforementioned comments are not “tribal”.If I see someone eating biscuits with a chocolate-flavoured coating I will tell them it doesn’t taste as good as real chocolate.(P.S. Anyone who actually prefers chocolate-flavoured coatings to real...
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
TBH I would have assumed anti-phase made no difference had not people testified that switching to normal phase made their CDs sound more equivalent to vinyl(!)I’ve always striven to ensure that all elements of the systems I used were “phase correc...
Linear tracking turntables, whatever happened?
Uber waltz, I know what you mean.Even Arthur Salvatore switched back to pivoted arms as his ultimate preference when he felt they had improved enough. ;)
Anti-skating adjustment REGA RP6
If one performs needledrops at different settings on the same section of music you will hear subtle differences due to unequal pressures within the groove. Music will sound fractionally more natural and “unreproduced” using a more optimal setting....
linn sondek tt
Yes, Linn was extremely well marketed...Please note also that they were the first (?) manufacturer to shake the establishment by insisting that motor units/turntables sounded different and could dictate the sound of your system.Consequently, they ...
