Best Jazz and Rock & Roll HDCD CDs
I'm not sure how many Chris Isaak CD's are HDCD but "Baja Sessions" sure is and the sound quality is excellent! If anyone knows of any other of his works in HDCD I'd appreciate your post. Steve H
Best live album you've ever heard?
Eva Cassiday, Live At Blues Alley
Good insturmental sax jazz recommindations
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Johnny Hodges, Stanley Turentine and Gene Ammons. Although not as popular as some of the above mentioned artists, they are excellent performers.
Music you would like to turn someone on to.
Here are two very different suggestions:1. Up, Bustle and Out (a trip-hop group)2. Tom Russell (folk-rock)"Borderland" is one of my all-time favorites.
Standing in the shadows of....
I have the audio CD and it sounds great! BTW, Stereophile magazine had it listed as one its "records to die for" in its latest annual (February, I think!) feature.
What early 70's rock bands had violins?
OK, so it's country rock: The Charlie Daniels Band! Who can forget "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"?
Your favorite recent discovery
"Borderland" by Tom Russell. Excellent folk-rock artist that I liken to a southwestern Harry Chapin. I took it to my local hi-end dealer to play and he now uses it to demo his Wilson Maxx's!
What artist piqued your interest?
OK, you asked for it, here's my story. I grew up listening to "top 40". Whatever they were playing on AM radio I was listening to. I even thought some up-tempo Perry Como sounded cool. In 4th grade I watched Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show and asked...
What's your favorite lyric from a song?
Song: Are You Listening, Lucky?Artist: Joe ElyCD: Live at Liberty Lunch (as well as a few others)"She fit real tight, just like pair of fifty-dollar shoes."
Receiver for Vienna Acoustics - Haydn
The Luxman R117 is a classic receiver. At 160 wpc into 8 ohms it will provide lots of silky smooth power. This is one of the few receivers that IMHO stacks up with separates. They are hard to find (no longer made) but well worth the effort. New pr...
Favorite Movie Soundtrack
Here's a couple no one mentioned yet: A Bronx Tale; The Big Easy (a very good Zydeco primer!). I plan on giving some of the earlier nominations a good listen. I love recommendations for good music.Best wishes,Steve H
help me get into gospel
Here's one that I came across after reading a review in Sterophile magazine: "Sacred Steel:Traditional Sacred African American Steel Guitar Music in Florida". This is an absolutely great CD, but its a little hard to find. Anyone who is interested ...
Best Blues Comp for 4th party...
Alligator's 20th Anniverary (2 disc set)is a classic blues sampler.
Bach's Mass in B Minor: What is best CD out there?
Thanks to everyone for your responses. I'm quite new to classical and therefore greatly apreciate all of your comments and recommendations. I think I'll request 2 or 3 from inter-library loan and then purchase the one thatI like best. Thanks again...
cajun zydeco
If you are into high energy zydeco you have to listen to Beau Jocque and the Zydeco Hi-Rollers. He died about a year ago but I would start with "Git It, Beau Jocque" His style is considered "urban" zydeco. I'll bet you can't stop your foot from ta...
