Building my second system.
If you don't already have them, get good stands for the EPOS speakers. Ones with carpet spikes (if you have carpet), that can be filled with sand to mass load them. Good stands are a must for bookshelf speakers. If the stands aren't included in th...
New2Analog - Table Setup Help?
Before you go out and buy something, are you fairly sure of the setup? For instance, were you able to verify the vertical tracking force with a scale of some kind? The sound you hear could be caused by having way to much tracking force. For that m...

Mint Tractor
Well that's good news, since it was better on the first play. Cheers.
Mint Tractor
I just got my Mint LP Best Tractor today and spent a couple hours checking and re-aligning my cartridge. I found that my cartridge was just short of the arc line. When I was done, I put on the excellent reissue of "Astral Weeks" by Van Morrison. I...
Turntable Speed
I think you are correct and I would agree that a speed controller is an indispensable part of a high performance analog setup. But I still think that 33 1/3, if not perfectly stable, should be achievable without a speed controller. If I couldn't g...
Turntable Speed
Hello, I think the speed of the turntable is a product of correct setup, and maybe manufactures have no choice but to claim that their tables operate correctly at 33 1/3 rpm under proper operating conditions when properly set up. To explain furthe...
Sumiko Blackbird, Shindo and EAR
You might mention what type of table/arm you have, since it might not be a perfect match in different tonearms.Glad to hear you're loving the sound. I've heard that the Blackbird is an excellent match for my tonearm (VPI JMW-9 sig.)Cheers.

Turntable set up HELP
I bet mofi got it. I installed a new cart and it was smaller than the last one. When I lowered the arm it hit the arm lift just before it hit the record. I had to lower the arm lift just a bit and all was well.
VPI Speed Problem
The strobe is a must. You can then figure out how slow you are. With the SDS you should be able to bring it up to the correct speed. However, if a strobe says you're way way off, then it's best to find the reason for being so slow. Since you've go...
VPI Speed Problem
Geez, kids. The guy is trying to troubleshoot a problem. He didn't open by saying "I'm having trouble with my VPI TT which beats the pants off those crappy Lenco rebuilds." or "I'm having trouble with my VPI TT so please tell me which table I shou...
VPI Speed Problem
A clarification... it's the outer ring clamp that gets extremely close to the junction box, not the platter itself. During your move, if the junction box moved even a little, it might now be rubbing against the outer ring clamp. You just need to l...
VPI Speed Problem
I would check the speed with a strobe. I live in Chicago and I need to adjust the speed using the SDS during the winter because the table runs slower. Also, make sure the junction box isn't contacting the platter. And, make sure the pully on the mo...
