@whart. PLUS 1. @david12 , Not all of the trolls here are pushing an agenda for commercial reasons. The worst, for me, are the trolls who argue what our ears tell us, such as differences in power cords, as an example, and brought up again very recently on a fairly new thread. They say we are imagining it, hallucinating, off our rockers. And, they keep coming back, again and again and again. There are other types, too, such as those that bash one product design vs. another ( in my case, horn loaded speakers ). I have never jumped on a thread and bashed anything. I have been here on the Gon for 10 years, and this has gotten worse. I find them annoying, but most of all, I have no respect for them, because this is a forum about " listening to music ", and they rely only on science, and / or on " their " godly beliefs.. How I see it, anyway. I just laugh most of the time at these ignorant, close minded, earless people. Enjoy ! MrD.

There was a thread started here a while ago, I think it was " what about horns ", and the fun began. I jumped in, talking about why dynamics of a sound system is high on my priority list, and another came on and made the statement " I loathe horns ". I have to admit, I was seduced into the bantering that was about to take place. Turns out I owned the same speakers as this individual, with a superior ss amp that he owned ( imo ), and know first hand that dynamics was not a virtue of his system ( I admitted to other virtues he was enjoying ). It was boys against boys, looking for our manhood. Although us horn lovers felt he, and a few others, were trolls, the posting was an invite for everyone. The point of all this : bring it on........it is all part of our journey.

@kosst_amogan....Was not you I was referring to, but you were in " that " camp.

It is the trolls. It is the trolls. It is the trolls. Read any thread with controversy, and these same ones keep popping up. Fuses, coupling / damping feet, power cords, etc. These trolls argue for wanting scientific explanation, or just total disbelief, and call it snake oil, but fail to try, and use their own ears. And they will keep coming back for more, and more, and more. They are closed minded to a few simple facts. We all listen differently, hear things differently, enjoy things differently ( audio stuff ), and it is not their money buying this stuff. So, why do they care ?
|
But kosst, why does it matter to you ?, this proof thing. I use my ears. When I change out a piece of gear, a cable, different footers for my transport, fuses, whatever, I decide if I like it or not. Obviously if I hear no difference, it gets sent back. When I do hear a difference, and I almost always do, I live with it a while and determine if it is an enhancement to my system. If I find I enjoy my system more, great. I keep it and pays my money ( or I might try something else ). That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. Many of us here on the Gon, and elsewhere, share these findings with each other. And then, you come along ( and I know you are not alone ), and do what you do. Why should it matter to you ? When many of us hear these differences, science becomes less important, unless we want it to be. But we are who we are, and it is what it is. Science is your thing. I respect that of you. But, if you do not try some of this " snake oil ", as you put it, then just leave it alone. You are not god, that we need to provide you with proof. BTW, I am on a limited income, but save for my audio toys. Always, MrD.

@2channel8.....I am guilty as well, getting taken in, every time.
|
As I have stated before, it is open game, and should be. Any postings not appreciated by others can be ignored. On the subject of soundstaging. Although soundstaging in a system is very important, it is not one of my top five or six most important characteristics. Tone, coherence, flat frequency response, top to bottom extension, prat, and dynamics are. Putting a system together would also include : black, quiet background ( lack of distortions ), including hum, hiss, unnatural echos and reverberations ( room acoustics ), minimal mechanical and acoustical vibrations or feedback. If a system fails in any of my top five or six, the soundstaging will not make up for what is lacking elsewhere. I want it all. I am quite pleased with my systems soundstaging.
|
@kdude66 Yes, timbre as well ( I put tone and timbre together ). Of course, clarity and detail would need to be added to my list.......As an old timer and more experienced in audio, it is easier to decipher the critical elements important to me. The newbies rely on information spoken here. They are like the kids of today, as all the information is available on the net. But lest not forget, listening is the ultimate criteria. Enjoy, MrD.

Kosst still doesn't get it..... unbelievable......and amusing.
|
Buying audio products and listening to music is not about scientific measurements, although it can help in selecting and matching components together.... It is, for me, to capture to the best that I can, what is on the recording, to " my " liking. It is as simple as that. The addition of cables, fuses, isolation devices, a new amplifier, whatever, it is about me, and only me. And I listen. Other than measuring room acoustics, which I find is necessary for me to achieve my end goal, I am open to anything, and I use my ears. Thankfully, my ears still work.

+1 @geoffkait ...Why do we bother with these closed minded folks ? |
@amg56.....What half are you referring to ?, although I suspect which half.
|
Let us all celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the kosst, joining us here. It has been such a pleasure for me enjoying his nonsense, in him not trusting his ears, nor him not believing ours. MrD.
