It's not the trolls or self-proclaimed ultimate experts. It is those of us who respond to them. I've been guilty on a few occasions. (Maybe I am right now?) I'm not sure that if we ignore them they'll go away; but it would go a long way toward keeping a thread going in a productive direction. For every troll there seem to be 2 or 3 anti-trolls who may be well intentioned; but are muddying the waters as much as the troll.

Sorry, 2channel, I couldn’t resist. But I do agree with you 100%.

@2channel8.....I am guilty as well, getting taken in, every time. 

We don’t want to be like the snowflakes of the post-millennial generation, who prefer to ban speakers from campus who might hurt their feelings with different ideas.  I sometimes worry about thd future of our most important right, the first amendment. 
    There are quite a few trolls and other fools here whose posts I immediately skip.  You learn who they are pretty quickly.  I don’t know why they bother, much less how they find the time and energy.  On the other hand, they are fair game for uncensored responses.
      I assume some here merely deploy a sense of humor with impunity.   If someone defends a Macina Dynamica product, are they joking? 
   why would anyone bother to read a thread like, “cables make no difference” or “fuses make a huge difference”, much less the endless varieties of  “tubes vs solid state” ?  Only if you enjoy the fracas for its own sake.
