Tonearm scratches
they are pretty normal, and inevitable. I wouldn't worry about them.
What decibel level do you listen at?
Usually ~85 db, sometimes a little louder (88-90), sometimes a little softer (80-82)
Why I like my home system better than live music
I love live performances for the performance, but I can't recall ever being fully satisfied with the sonics - whether it be due to my seat location, the venue acoustics, audience distractions, or the performer's poor mix setting - it's never as go...
Equipment not worth fixing, what to do?
what Entrope and Jedinite said . . . you'd be surprised what they will fetch at auction (especially the P300, though not sure about the Oppo). And all you need to do is package them up for safe shipment.
Parasound HCA-2200II Runs Very Hot
I had a HCA2200 and they are biased for (I think) ~20-25 watts of class A, which makes them run very hot - even at idle. If it's not too hot to touch I suspect yours is running exactly as it's suppose to.
Volex cables - No longer belden???
I bought a batch of them a couple of years ago, and can't really tell the origin of the cable; however they are different in appearance from some I had bought previously that were obviously Belden. In use I don't notice any difference, except that...
Rebuilding old Sansui's
if you use good quality components you'll be surprised by the results so long as you match the drivers and have the right crossover. Parts express sells excellent quality components and they tell you all you need to know to do a decent job of matc...
Rebuilding old Sansui's
I just finished rebuilding a pair of Sansui's - mine were a 12" 4 way design. I pulled all of the drivers and x-over, installed a new baffle and built a 8" 2-way system using a basic single order x-over I built from scratch. I had to stuff the cab...
best pre-amp new or used for under $500?
Rotel RC1070s go for <$350 and would be a natural with your amp. A better pre is the B&K PT3 or PT5, but they don't have the phono stage which the Rotel has. Not an issue if you don't need a phono. The B&Ks have a sub out, and also dual...
any audiophile guitarists out there?
Anyone ever try this dumb trick - before you were old enough to know better, of course - cutting a guitar cable and rigging it to RCA jacks and then running it through a hi-fi amp? actually I did try it through an old receiver, and the output fro...
any audiophile guitarists out there?
I have ~15 guitars and 5 amps (that matter) plus several amps I've built or am building. The primary amps are Fender Concert Reverb, Super 112, Hot Rod Deluxe, Crate VFX5112, and Peavey Special 130. I have a little Silvertone Organ amp that I conv...
What is the Audiogon of music instruments?
not exactly like A'gon in regards to classifieds with formalized selling, feedback, etc, but Harmony Central does have Classifieds, Extensive Reviews, and active forums.
Proceed Pre preamp remote codes - same as avp?
I'm not sure if the Pre codes are the same as the AVP (don't think it is), but the Pre will output the codes via the front panel for each function and permit you to train a learning remote. Get a copy of the manual off of the Proceed web site and ...
Any smooth jazz fans out there?
I like some, and hate some. My thinking is Smooth Jazz is to Jazz as Pop is to Rock. Some of it is catchy, but it's very easy to tire. Some of it is immediately annoying and/or trite. Then there is some that I can listen to a lot (eg, Dave Grusin,...
"Neck and Neck" Mark Knopfler/Chat Atkins
Can anyone comment on the Chet & Lenny Breau album? I've been meaning to pick that one up for many years. judging from the amazon.com reviews it's comparable to the other Chet and ** releases; however also judging from amazon.com, you may need...
