Tube Phono kits
The Cornet would be an upgrade IMO, and if you're looking for a real killer, get the K&K kit.
Joule Preamps?
Sorry I did not see this earlier. According to my conversation with Jud at RMAF, the reason for putting the 6350 tubes back in the circuit for the LA-150 MkII is to regain some of the musicality that was lost in the LA-150 MkI. I compared the LA-1...
What tubes does a Joule Electra LA150 MKII use?
In the power supply you should have 2 x 6EM7 (big octal type tubes) and 2 x 0A2 (thin tubes).
Basic help for turntable newbie
Try Dan at Dedicated Audio (advertises here on Audiogon) or Alan Kafton at Audio Excellence if you have set-up questions. They are both in your neck of the woods.
Basic help for turntable newbie
I agree with the Hi Fi News disc. I just set up my new TT this morning and used the protractor that came with the disc to align the cartridge. It is pretty easy to use if you're the patient type. I'll use the LP later to check some of the settings...
Blind Shoot-out in San Diego -- 5 CD Players
Essentialaudio - Your your post in general and your last paragraph specifically speakes volumes and is very accurate IMO.
Berning ZH270 vs 845 SET amp
Music Reference RM-9. Like the Berning you can use the feedback settings to tailor the sound, but it is an EL-34 based amp that will one up the Cary (and I have owned Cary gear).
Kubala Sosna and Virtual Dynamics - Similar??
Teck5 - VD was just having a sale on demo stock. Today was the last day but if you call them soon maybe they still have some pieces left over. I picked up a pair of Master ICs for a great price and wish I had acted sooner on some of the other cabl...
problems with 24 bit cd players
Mr. Tennis - knowing you don't have a preference for a DAC, I'll still throw one out there. The Monarchy M24 uses a 20-bit DAC chip (for Redbook). You might want to look at the review Lynn Olson did in Positive Feedback (see link below) or for a m...
Attenuator recommendations
Tonyptony - At first I did not think the Rothwell's colored the sound, but after hearing both the EVS and Endler attenuators to my ears and in my system I felt the Rothwell's were slightly warm. However, I have to say for the price, compared to th...
Attenuator recommendations
I've used the EVS, Endler, and Rothwell attenuators. I preferred the EVS which have just come back into production. They allowed for fine tuning where as the Rothwell are a finite 10db attenuation.
Cardas or Virtual Dynamics power cords? Opinions?
I have spoken to Rick about it in the past, but quite frankly was looking for more of a laymans interpretation.
Cardas or Virtual Dynamics power cords? Opinions?
Perhaps a bit off topic, but a thread on AA appeared recently where another cable manufacturer had this to say about VD power cords:"Some may be aware of this, but Virtual Dynamics uses magnets soldered in series with the conductors on their produ...
Anyone else regenerating A/C?
Zaikesman, does the API provide redundant filtering in conjunction with the EP? I ask only because I see EP offers their balanced power solution with both a filtered and non-filtered option. I do like the fact that in the API unit each outlet is i...
Sota TT tweaks
I had a Nova and Revelation Audio Labs was making an umbilical cable for me. To make a long story short, I never got the cable and eventually sold the table. Brad at RAL may still have it and if I recall, it was 8 ft in length and in the $300 pric...
