Matching stepup to phono stage
Herman, yes that is correct, in series. Sorry for the confusion. The spreadsheet I have does the calculations correctly. Thom Mackris gave me the spreadhseet and I believe the Galibier Design website has a link where you can download it. It is qui...
Matching stepup to phono stage
Rhbblb1 - if you send me an email offline I will send you a spreadsheet that I used that will do the calculations based on different step-up ratios in combination with the resistor values of the step-up and phono stage. As an example. I used a K&am...
Crystal Cable - Have you heard or compared them?
I have tried the Micro and Piccolo in my system. I normally use the Oritek X-2 or CRL Silver ICs from my DAC to preamp. I tried both the Micro and Piccolo and can say that both are very good cables. They are very neutral and let through a lot of d...
Speaker cables from same brand as interconnects?
I've always mixed and matched. No issues and its fun.
Your top ten CD transport???
Dazzdax, it is not necessary to use the I2S interface to get best results. I have had excellent results with the RCA and XLR outputs as well. Using the XLR output the transport can upsample to 24/96 if you wish, which my current Monarchy M24 DAC c...
Alpha Core Goertz MI 2 upgrade
Mtrot, that was highly recommended to me by Alpha Core and I would like to try that myself sometime. It could provide the best of both worlds in reference to each cables sonic qualities.
Alpha Core Goertz MI 2 upgrade
I had the MI-2s and upgraded to the CRL Silver cables (old FIM). They definitely sound better, but I still think the MI-2 is one of the best cables for the price. I didn't sell my MI-2 and it will go back in the system for nostalgia purposes. It i...
Today's Transport War: Significant Differences?
I'll be trying the North Star 12S interface shortly. I have had the transport for a while, and now just bought the DAC. It will be interesting to see how it compares with my existing set-up.
Opinions on lower priced digital that can compete
The VH Audio Pulsar was my first digital cable and I think for the money it is a great value.
Importance of arm length?
Both Raul and Macrojack make good points. If you go to the Vinyl Engine website you can use the tonearm database to search for arma that will match your existing cutout. It will give you the effective length and overhang numbers, as well as the mo...
DAC under $1K
The Monarchy M24 DAC may be of interest to you.
Good amp repair shop in L.A.?
In addition to the others mentioned, Mitch Singerman in LA might be able to help depending on the equipment.
Up & Over sampling Is one superior to the other?
Audioengr - I just realized you were referring to the North Star 192 DAC and not the Model 192 transport, but that raises another question. Why does North Star allow upsampling at the transport level? Is it indeed the same upsampler as in the DAC....
Up & Over sampling Is one superior to the other?
Audioengr - is the SM5847AF chip in the North Star used in the AES/EBU output that allows for 24/96 upsampling, or the I2S output that allows for 24/192 upsampling, or both? I have been using the AES/EBU output and letting the North Star upsample ...
isolation transformer vs line conditioner
Sean, thanks for the information. The Topaz capacitance is listed at 0.005 pF with stated common mode noise rejection of 126db. I have seen some iso transformers capacitance listed at 0.0001 pF, which I take it is better based on your statement.
