Granite instead of an amp stand?
Sreno: Try looking in the yellow pages under chef/kitchen or restaurant supplies. It is probably cheaper to buy localy due to the shipping weight. They have them at my local "designer" lumberyard, but they are expensive and only come in a max 22" ...
Your Listening chair
Interesting topic, I think anyway as I have had a fascination with chairs long before my fifteen year stint in the interior design industry, even had an outdoor chair "garden" at one time. I listen ten to fifteen degrees off axis for casual listen...
Bel Canto DAC 1 Upgrade
I located the old MSB link. Considering the additional cost of the 1000 power supply, I will probably go with the Bel Canto which is available used within my budget. I do not see any used/discounted MSB FN's and power supplies and do not feel like...
Bel Canto DAC 1 Upgrade
I am considering the purchase of a used Bel Canto DAC 1. I used to have a website with pricing on the MSB with upgrades but seem to have lost it in our last computer crash. Can anyone supply me with this site or the price of the fully decked out M...
Help! My tube preamp shocked my speaker!
I would (obviously) test all tubes and replace as needed (keep track of the performance specs for each old and new tube that remains in the amp). After doing this I would wait a reasonable amount of time (say three months) and then recheck the tub...
IEC Retaining Kits
Thanks for the info Iceraven and get rid of that SUV.
IEC Retaining Kits
Spamaway Iceraven, I have the same problem and external supports have a tendancy to negate isolation products. I am a born rigger but if the price is right always prefer to have someone else design and build the rig.
Silverline Sonata?
Interesting to see this thread as I was just out auditioning speakers yesterday and happened to listen to a pair of Sonatas. They were originally hooked up to some Denon HT thing and were a little bright. We switched them to an Audio Research 120 ...
How many of us fall asleep while
SF: I have not checked out using gear as a tax deduction, but have already been turned down by worker's comp in regard to system upgrades. I ran the purchase a Bel Canto DAC through my WK caseworker at a meeting held at my neurologists office. The...
How many of us fall asleep while
I use my late night listening sessions in combination with biofeedback training that I received for chronic pain. If it is a good session I always doze off before the CD is done playing. I usually wake up when the last track ends and then transpor...
HomeGrown Audio Impressions
I use and enjoy the Homegrown Super Silver IC's. I have not compared them to a lot of cables, just Kimber PBJ and KCAG, also to HT's Silway and Truthlinks. I own the Truthlinks and the Homegrowns and prefer both to the others mentioned. I have a C...
Do I have to buy all new CDs?
I do not have a high resolution resolution system but I do alternate IC's. I prefer the Harmonic Technolgy Truthlink IC's for poor recordings as they seem to smooth out the HF's. It takes less than a minute to switch as I leave them hanging from s...
Burn-in time Vs. Getting used to a sound
Jostler and Brutus: If I only shared your hearing and mental prowess I could have saved a great deal in effort and money on hifi gear over the years. I may need to eliminate nutmeg in my diet which may account for the auditory hallucinations that ...
High Efficiency 2 way floorstanding or B
Paul: How large is the room and do you play demanding music (full scale classical) at high volume? I will be auditioning the Reynaud Twin and Trente this week and have already listened to the Coincident Triumph Sigs. I liked the Triumphs, they see...
Favorite Xmas movie ?
"How the Grinch Stlole Christmas" (animated), "It's a Wonderful Life", and "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer" with narration and songs by Burl Ives. Also enjoy "Here Comes Santa Claus" (the song) by Elvis. I havn't seen "Hannah and Her Sisters" since...
