Impulsive audio purchase
Been there Noonen. I've got several duplicates of CDs some were bought intentionally, some not. But last summer I had a brief fling with LPs (again) and acquired a LOT of them. It was painful to get rid of them, but I ended up keeping and framing ...
tips for Vandersteen 3A sig
Hi Flying; I also have 3Asigs-- great speakers IMO. I haven't tried a sub in my 14 X22' room, but I have done quite a bit of room treatment and some vibration control of components-- all to good effect. I use five 11" ASC tube traps, one in each c...
Believers VS. nonbelievers???? GEEzzzzz
It seems that anything in audio that Jostler3 cannot measure he just relagates to the junkheap of "placebo effect". Well, IMHO, that's not rational, and it's not science. Cheers. Craig.
The gender-split in audio
........I need to add that my daughter, who lives in a big city, attends many more live music events (including season opera tickets) than I do. Craig
The gender-split in audio
Hi Wellen; This morning, I asked my 29 year old daughter this very question. She is a music lover, but I am an audiophile (and music lover). I helped her put together a good sounding $5K system, but beyond that, she has absolutely no interest in o...
Headphone Amp
Hi Skut; I like the Headroom Supreme for away from home as it can be used with batteries or an AC adaptor-- sounds great too, and was once a Stereophile Class B amp. It can also be hooked up to a pre-amp by using tape out jacks, or a splitter into...
Hockey Pucks under amp?
..........not clear. Of course the coasters (or pucks) go under each of the components feet.
Hockey Pucks under amp?
Hi Blbloom; I have thought of this, but never tried it. I suppose the question is: are the hockey pucks resonant or non-resonant (I would expect non-reasonant). Some Levinson components have the AC receptacle on the underside of the chassis (eg, 3...
PS Audio Ultimate outlet
Respectfully Drubin; go back and read Stevemj's thread on "Speaker Wire is it Science or Psychology?", posted 3/7/01. IMO it is pretty inflammatory right from the start. That's not the thread (and posts) of a person with an open mind, rather it is...
What s in front of your chair?
........actually, the effects of wearing glasses on listening to music was written up in Stereophile several years ago-- don't remember if was tongue-in-cheek or not, or the effects. It seems to me Dick Olsher, a tube man, was involved-- that was ...
Survey-What is your most used source?
CDs w/speakers 90% of the time, and 10% w/ Sennheiser 600 headphones plugged into SF Line 2 pre-amp-- hope listening to CDs doesn't do to me what it seems to have done to Cornfed though:>). Cheers. Craig.
Buying "Sound Unheard"
Hi John; for me, the internet has changed everything. Like some of those above, I now do most of my buying through the various audio gear listing services-- mostly Audiogon. The inet also allows for a great deal of research of products prior to pu...
I m a beginner. Please help
Hi Dave; at this point in your audio/music interest, I'd suggest not getting too hung up on such things as inter-connects, power cords, and speaker cables. Concentrate on the basics of a good system whatever your budget is-- this would include sou...
Jokes of and about audiophiles
Detlof; thanks for the thread, I enjoyed the humor of all the posts-- gave everybody +1/+1 votes-- except Eddie got a +2/+2 for an incredibly funny "take" on our sometimes goofy hobby. Craig
Anyone heard of LAT International Cables
I don't have any, but Steve McCormack of McCormack Audio recommends the LAT power cord for his amps as a good sounding, high quality cord at reasonable price. I intend to try them. Craig
