TUBE or SS?
Riv3r this response is pretty self serving since I have an Audio Research SP9 MkII for sale in the classifieds here. I now use an Audio Research SP14, suffice to say I'm a fan of AR, worth considering...Rgds, Jeff
Turntable Problems
I use the Grado Reference Platinum in my office system (Oracle Alexandria and stock arm). No problems at all, nice sound. Turntables are finicky beasts, re-check everything, there's bound to be something out of whack that needs a little tweaking.
TUBE or SS?
I suggest a tube pre-amp and solid state amp, you tend to get the best of both worlds. Re-tubing pre-amps is cheap, the care and feeding of tubed amps can be quite significant. My Audio Research pre-amp with Classe amps and Martin Logan Quest Z's ...
bridging binding posts
Why not contact your Proac dealer, or the distributor near you, or Proac themselves? I'm sure the bridges aren't too expensive, and if for some reason you ever decided to sell your speakers having the orginal bridges will make it easier to sell (a...
CD players
This is a little off topic, since the player is a solid state unit, but, I have a YBA CD Integre and it sounds very tubish to my ear. Real nice player...
Budget phono stage- advice appreciated
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. $400 is a little more than I'd prefer to spend, but, my vinyl deserves a good step-up. Perhaps once I sell my Audio Research SP9 II pre-amp, I'll go fer it. David, yeah, can't shake my love of analog, ...
Are audiophiles pot heads???
I doubt you would have asked if audiophiles are alcoholics if the baby was holding a wine glass. The pot stigma really ought to go by the wayside, smoking pot is no worse than drinking a six pack of beer. To each his own is my motto, I would imagi...
Most overpriced audio component made
Any piece of wire over a coupla hundred bucks still strikes me as ridiculous. I've already taken some heat for my views, but I still say there only so much engineering and materials that can go into a power cord or interconnect. JL
PRE/AMP Combo or Integrated?
I've had an Audio Refinement Complete (built under license by/for YBA) in my office for the last several days while my amp gets fixed, it's a nice integrated, and it can be had for around $700 on the 'net. I own more "rarefied" gear so I'm kinda f...
Ship to USA only?
I'm in Montreal, and no, there is no problems with customs. I've bought and sold all kinds of gear without any problems at all, so if there's anyone unwilling to sell to Canada, it's likely a case of being unfamiliar with how easy it really is. Ha...
Noise problems
Steve, I had the same problem. I did three things to eliminate the noise (buzzing sound, my guess is at about 120hz). Fist, I grounded my tube preamp to a cold water pipe, that helped a little. Then I clamped ferrites on everything remotely resemb...
Biamping progress- but is it ideal?
South43, I'm more than happy to try various ways of hooking up the sytem to determine by ear what's preferable. Just not certain all the options. Medawson, yes, the amps are running in a bridged mode, there's a switch on both the receiver and the ...
Feelings on Napster?
I'm of two minds as well, the artists are due their fair share, but there has always been ways to copy music and hasn't crippled the industry. The arguement can be made that there has never been "CD quality" copies available, but being an audiophi...
Bi-amping...help appreciated
Thanks for your suggestions, I'll certainly put them to good use. All the best, Jeff
Opinions on integrateds, thanks...
Thanks, appreciate your opinion. I may have the opportunity to pick up a "B" stock Classe for less than $1000, which brings the two integrateds into the same price point. Think I'll try to find a way to borrow one of each to determine what's best,...
