Spike feet protectors
Spikes through the carpet, no question. Assuming your subfloor is concrete, you want those speakers anchored to it.
Furutech GTX NCF receptical break in, how long
@paulcreed Like I've argued elsewhere, if your stereo is that radically altered by something so insignificant, it's either seriously malfunctioning or is very poorly designed. There's really no rational reason something should be that vulnerable t...
ACA...Amp Camp Amp...anyone built one?
I'm an F5 builder here too, though I built mine up to deliver more like 64 watts. I briefly considered the old ACA, but ultimately decided to do the F5 just because of the power I needed. The ACA is a simple amp that a lot of people have really ta...

"The Garden State"... If gardens grew smoke stacks.
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses
I've been to every major city in North America except for San Diego and a couple in Canada. Chicago is, by far, the most miserable, bitter, filthy hole I've ever been to. It's like somehow they condensed the state of New Jersey into a city. I real...
Current, Amperage
I have 936's which are a bit harder to drive than the 826's. I'm using a modified First Watt F5. It does 64 watts and drives them very nicely. A good quality solid state class A rating of 25 to 30 watts will drive them just fine. Class AB, I'd go ...
Current, Amperage
Already seeing a bunch of confusion....91.5 dB is NOT the 1 watt efficiency of those Focals at one watt. That's their sensitivity to 2.83 volts. I'm sure they've got that characteristic Focal upper bass impedance dip down around 3.5 ohm. That mean...

@nonoise I strongly dislike Chicago. I've got plenty of dealers to choose from in Detroit and Columbus. I'd sooner put a copper tube in the holder before blowing $40 on a fuse anyways. I can't think of a better reference than that.

@nonoise I'll pass and I'll tell you why. The power supply in that thing is big enough to be immune to me sitting there rapidly flipping the power switch on and off. The LED indicators all over it don't even flicker. Second, I do doubt my hearing ...

@nonoise Then let's put the assumption to the test. I will make my build of the F5 available to anyone within reasonable driving distance of Toledo, Ohio with a scope, signal generator, and distortion analyzer.. This is an amp with a 600VA toroida...
Folded tweeters vs. dome?
@erik_squires Indeed ESS is alive and well selling a full line of speakers and repair products. And for the low, low price of $350 they will sell you one authentic Heil Air-motion Transformer in your choice of 3 sizes. Personally, I prefer mine hu...

@douglas_schroeder Looks like Almarg sums up the point eloquently. And I firmly believe he's right in his assertion that electronics designers wouldn't consider sensitivity to a fuse to be a virtue. It takes no skill or cost to build a circuit exc...
power
Mc makes some kilowatt+ amps. The most powerful mobile amp I've ever seen was 10,000 watts. I have no idea what people do with 1,000 watts. I'm using a 32 watt amp and want for nothing more.

@douglas_schroeder Can you explain why you think better gear should be more prone to superfluous phenomenon?
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses
Uberwaltz,It is. I build and modify stuff and if these fuses do to my gear what they claim, I've clearly done something wrong based on the premise my power supply should be immune to such minor things. It's like people here forget a $5000 amp prob...
