Why do many discussions about sonic performance disintegrate into technical discusions?
@hifiman5  Sorry, but Teo is wrong. Neither facts nor reality require agreement. Consensus isn't the decider of truth. Objective analysis is.

Fisher, why even bother taking suggestions? By your logic they're meaningless. Most of what's debated in the realm of technical details isn't subjective. You can measure it. That's why George likes his BJT amps. I like FETs. They're different and ...
Tekton custom grills
I think that this thread is 3 years old and the issue still persists is a real statement to the miserable management and questionable cash flow of the operation. Why don't the speakers just come with grills? This seems like buying a dirt cheap sub...

I think you're getting what you paid for.

Disagreement and argument accomplishes nothing? You've clearly never been in any sort of relationship. Disagreement is the identification of the problem. Argument is the first step to solving it. People need to passionately express themselves for ...
Tube match problems
I'm kinda thinking the OP should be aware he's going to be sticking a screwdriver into a box with upwards of 500 volts inside.
Tom Petty: It was an "accidental" OD
@orpheus10 C'mon man... Nobody ever thinks "I'm gonna shoot heroin to become a better person." It's entirely possible to use opiates for a very long time and not die.... As long as you don't try to get as high as possible. Quitting that jazz doesn...

Tom Petty: It was an "accidental" OD
My second wife died 1 month, 3 days ago of a heroin/fentanyl OD. I'll tell you a cold hard truth nobody seems to want to face. There basically are no "accidental" overdoses. Pretty much every single time one of these folks buys the farm it's becau...
Speakers costing range of 2500-3500 per pair
I want to say "Screw odd-ball, obscure, impossible-to-find gear!!!" as I sit here listening to a clone of an amp of which 100 examples were built. Then again, nobody in their right mind would try to sell what I'm using no matter how good it sounded.
Wharfedale - Reva/Diamond
I'm sitting here listening to a pair of Focal 936's. They have 4 F cone 6.5" drivers and cost $4000. The Focal Kanta No.2 has 3 F cone drivers and costs 250% more. You can be sure they sound much better. The only difference between the drivers is ...
Speakers costing range of 2500-3500 per pair
OP, you can try that, but you're not going to be dealing with that dealer real long because Focal imposes contractual price obligations to sell their products. My dealer marked mine down $700 and after tax they were $4000 on the nose. He's not in ...
Opinions re: debugging/repairing Cambridge Audio 540A amp stage
That stuff looks like the glue manufacturers typically use to hold big caps on to avoid straining the leads. I'd suspect it's tripping the protection feature, but I find it odd that it doesn't consistently zero the volume. The easy way of testing ...
Room color opinions
I don't worry about the colors of my walls. You can't really tell what color they are through the LED spot lights and lasers. I definitely find that the more I'm distracted from the room the more I enjoy listening.
Opinions requested
The impedance is a simple value of ohms. The phase angle is a little more odd. The phase angle described how inductive or capacitive the load is. If you think of a full wave, the top and bottom of it together as a 360 degree shape, the phase angle...
