How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
If you read Mr. vdH's notes (the Q and A part) on tonearm setup on his website, you'll run across a statement where he flatly recommends raising the back of the tonearm about 6 - 8 mm (from level, or from parallel to the platter), I think it says....
AC cord polarity?? Does it matter???????
Of course if you decide to use a balanced power unit, all this is of no concern.
Transfiguration Orpheus - Has anyone tried it ?
Tubes, thanks for the ref. I am aware of them and agree they're probably the best. A little on the pricey side, but I may break down and have them do a complete service/upgrade ($850!) if I start using the deck again alot. So far it works just fin...
Spanish Harlem
I'll probably catch hell for this, but my favorite recording of Spanish Harlem is the Mama's and the Papa's version on "If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears." (Dunhill)You go Mama Cass!.
AC cord polarity?? Does it matter???????
Jeff's explanation is correct, except that cheater plugs now only come polarized (one wide blade) so if you want to use them as he describes, you'll have to file down the wide blade so it wil go into the socket either way.
Baby Koetsus? ie, Poor Mans Koetsu
From all I've read, the Koetsu Black is not made "in house" anyway. If I can remember who makes it for them, I'll post it.

Larry, a little off subject, but do you use your CR-7a much? Ever had it serviced? I've had one since new, and with 100-lot, brand new cassettes (even MFSL!) appearing on eBay for pennies, I was thinking of having it serviced/upgraded.
How much output needed from MC cart.
Jependleton is right on the money for that (lowish) amount of phono preamp gain. I would recommend a van den Hul Frog Gold MkII which has .85 mv output and sounds great when properly loaded at around 500 ohms.BTW, .85 mv is considered medium outpu...
Optimal loading for Dynavector xx2
The output impedance of your cartridge is 6 ohms. You've no doubt run across the "25 times" rule regarding a theoretical optimum load of 25 x the cart impedance = (in your case) 150 ohms. The actual best loading in your system will fall in a range...
Transfiguration Orpheus - Has anyone tried it ?
Well larry, the Orpheus must be very special. I was just listening to a Boulez 1/2 speed mastered LP of The Firebird sith my Tranny-W, and if there was any more detail or bass, it would have displayed on the video!
Transfiguration Orpheus - Has anyone tried it ?
Larry, yes, I noticed the greater weight in the specs. Of more interest (to me because of issues w/ my SME V fat armtube) can you tell if the cartridge is taller than the T-fig W/V? I'm talking about the distance from the stylus to the top surface...
Transfiguration Orpheus - Has anyone tried it ?
Speedy, the Orpheus is available for $2500 from the same discount source as I gave you for the Temper V/W. Also, it has a significantly (IMO) lower compliance than the Tempers (13 vs. 15). It has a higher output than the Temper V with a slightly l...
Am I having a problem with static?
Raul is correct. In addition, using a carbon fiber record brush is the best way to get static off the record but you must:1.) Either hold the metal part of the brush and touch your other hand to a grounded knob or something grounded, OR2.) Attach ...
amp de-powering soon after power-on
Your questions would be best answered by Bryston -- call them, they're very nice. And, they will tell you if you need to send the amp in for service, or if you could fix it on your own.
speaker cable static sound
I really don't think it's the speaker cables, although Lloyd Walker and others make RFI-killing doohickeys you can put across your speaker terminals. And Purist Audio's Dominus and Venustas (even Musaeus) have enough Ferox shielding to keep out an...
