Extremely well recorded jazz double bass? cymbals?
Edorr - "Jazz in the Garden" -- cymbals are amazing. That will work. Geez, I've only listened to two and both blew me away. Thanks...
Extremely well recorded jazz double bass? cymbals?
Wow! Thank you everyone. Thanks for the suggestion of Brian Bromberg. Check out his CD "Hands," it's all acoustic bass and should be a great test, man what an amazing recording.http://brianbromberg.net/audio/hands/hands.htmlGreat harmonics playing...
Pre: Audible Illusions vs Joule-Electra vs ARC?
I wish it were possible. The only way that could happen is if I buy all of them, audition them, and then sell the 2 I don't want. A bit rich for my blood.
Does this amp have a problem or is it OK to buy?
All, can't thank you enough. The seller has most graciously let me back out. Amazingly honorable person. Shipping to the nearest tech would be prohibitive, living with it would not work for this overly particular buyer, and spending the time to le...
Differences?Dunleavy SCI III vs ProAc Response 2.5
Good point, the SC-III. Probably the ProAc and Dunleavy are quit different too, but I just want some sense of how. Thanks...Jim
Which B&K ST-140?
Thanks Unsound. Phase angle? The sales guy never said anything about that. How do you calculate it?
Extremely well recorded jazz double bass? cymbals?
Thank you all. Some great suggestions. If you have never heard your CDs on a system that resolves the way a $100k system at the shop does, what is the point of listening to your CDs? You don't know what resolution is there and what's not even if yo...
Amp design logic
Well. My question about amp design turned into a huge lesson about the hifi business, and I wish I'd posed the question a little differently. I'm certainly in over my head in several ways. There is clearly some heavyweight experience and wisdom in...
Could use your advice re: tube gear
Ths364, thank you for your post, it makes me feel easier about getting the two old timers in spec, without taking a bath. Do you mean, put them back in the stream with the upgraded parts, or put the old ones back in? I have been listening to them ...
Could use your advice re: tube gear
Jeez. If Jolida's mods cost as much as Underwood's, then you had some good wine indeed.I searched Jolida's website for a list of the mods but I could not find one. Guess I will have to wait and call them.
Amp design logic
Thanks for all the enlightenment everyone. I was really hoping for a discussion of the components in a $1000 amp vs those in a $50,000 amp, and how much they, vs the designer's intellectual property, contribute to the quality (and cost) difference...
Could use your advice re: tube gear
Wolf, so how are you liking the Jolida? May I ask what other gear you've used that you can compare to? If you'd rather say it in email, I am at jkk251 at gmail dot com. Thanks much.
Ever heard of, any opinions on, these speakers?
Jamie (Zydo), would you terribly mind emailing me at jkk251 at gmail dot com ?I would really like to ask a couple questions since you have these speakers and are familiar with other brands. It would be a tremendous help, thanks.

It was tight with the Anthem. Only once or twice did I notice any boominess. Plus they did not put the spikes in, and it was a foot from the back wall. I pulled it out 2 more feet but not much difference. Probably a 15x15 listening room. Think it ...
Amp design logic
Thank you all for the great discourse.I don't know that starting an amp from scratch is better than getting something like a CJ MV-55 and trying to make it sound like the way high end.
