Who is using passive preamps and why?
Herman, Tvad, Phd, et al, In a given system any active preamp of equal quality can be connected with good to excellent results. With a passive attenuator there are many things to consider including:1. What source will you use?2. What speakers will...
Room treatment success story
Every room is different. I clap my hands and listen for the live areas in the room. An open fireplace between the speakers can be a problem area as it will cause an echo. A wall or other hard surfaces in close proximity to the listening position w...
Room treatment success story
Are you confused yet? ASC (Acoustic Sciences Corporation) is the original and IMHO still the best. RPG and GIK came later. Eventually all audiophiles realize the benefits of room acoustics and when compared to component upgrades room treatment is ...

Better sound from 6550 or kt88 tubes in Jadis amp?

Another speaker placement question. HELP
Judging from the pictures you have an unusual room for sure and learning the room is sometimes the most difficult part of getting our systems to work the way we want. The rule of thumb for many speaker manufacturers is for the listening position t...
Mating an AR LS3B with a CJ Sonographe sa 400?
This is why it is always better to stay with the same brand. Amps and preamps from the same manufacturer are designed to work together and usually yield the best sound.
Who is using passive preamps and why?
I am not aware of one single amplifier manufacturer that designs a matching passive preamp to compliment their amplifiers. If you want to select components, speakers and wire around a volume control it's ok with me. I prefer the sound of an active...
Speakers for 55 watts of EL-34 tube power ?
Audioconnection is right. One of the most musically satisfying systems I ever assembled was Vandersteen 2Ci with a Vandersteen 2W with Audio Research amp and preamp. It would play any kind of music and it was very satisfying and fun. I may do that...
