Ugh. Another amp opinion thread....$4500-ish.
Looks like a nice deal for the Luxman, new.For budget-minded, any love for Monarchy?  SM70 pros?  Either individually or as monoblocks?  Pretty sure I heard a bigger Monarchy, but it's been a long time and can't recall any associated speakers or g...
Making the audiophile experience more available
Other than just having a set of phones for the heck of it over the years, halfway serious headphoning is relatively new for me...within the past year or so.  It was somewhat eye(ear)-opening.  Reading through some of the headphone threads on those...

Interesting variety of suggestions, at a wide price range!  I'd love to buy them all and try them all, but I'm not whitecamaro.  :)@soix.  Have you tried Clayton gear?  Not very common, but the folks who've reported hearing them on the webs seem t...
Former Tekton owners: What have you moved on to?
It seems a prevailing sentiment is, oddly, that one can say upon setting up a new speaker (like the Tektons) "It was immediately obvious how much better these were from my previous speakers!"@prof.  Sometimes, I think, that's "new toy" syndrome.

I'm breaking in Impact Monitors, now.  They absolutely have a distinctive sound and very much react to different amplification.  I'm really enjoying them, so far, but I can certainly see (hear) how they may not be everyone's cup o' tea.  45-50 hou...
Since Dennis Had left Cary has the company built any new tube equipment?
@linnlingo. generally agreed on unexciting new gear from Cary.  The DMS500 looks pretty interesting in its capabilities, although more and more similar items are coming out fairly briskly.  While unexciting, I think some of the products are good ...
Store auditioning and then buying on-line from others. How do you feel about it ?
Right.  If they're jerks, no problem at all.  Or, if they're idea of level-matching is giving the one that's in stock or has a higher margin a couple db cushion.  Same guy who trashes everything you and competitors have and even his own product if...
Since Dennis Had left Cary has the company built any new tube equipment?
I think all of the tube-tube gear is at least based on Dennis Had designs...maybe tweaked after he left?  I don't know the timeline, but maybe the mkii of the CAD120s was after? The DAC200ts and DMS600[se], I think, were after Mr. Had left, and the...
Upgrading digital source device is not easy
No doubt that the other recommendations (Meitnor, PS, T&A, etc.) are excellent. I think your budget improvement from what you’ve mentioned in your original post is to look at a separate DAC for your digital files, possibly use the 306 as a tra...
Upgrading digital source device is not easy
I think just the opposite.  The 306 SACD PV is an excellent SACD player but just a decent DAC for CD/redbook, IMO.  What are your digital file formats?
Upgrading digital source device is not easy
I think it will be easier to upgrade the DAC than that SACD, especially if your 2tb are pcm.It is a great SACD player, IMO.
Store auditioning and then buying on-line from others. How do you feel about it ?
@zavato. I think, if one has taken the LAS's time to audition its item and it was cool about it, one should then give the LAS to opportunity to match that online 1/2 price before clicking "buy-it."  If it's close, probably better to go with the L...
Leather couch, leather love seat or single wooden chair
If your wife actually likes to listen, my advice would be to find a way to use the two-seater.I use an Eames lounge chair in one room, and two "home theater" recliners in another.  The recliners are offset so one is in the sweet spot, and the othe...

@markwatkiss ha.  as an owner of a Schiit product, Sugden seems ok.
Store auditioning and then buying on-line from others. How do you feel about it ?
"In fact I bought all my equipment used- a lot of it from Johnny's customers."In the right circumstances, that's almost as good as buying from him!  I assume at least some of them use the funds to buy more stuff.  I don't know if it works this way...
