| What makes you build a system around an amplifier? OP--The three amps that will likely stick around, even as speakers may change are Cary CAD211fe, Wall Audio m50 PSETs, and, like Wolf, an Inspire SEP HO. The Carys sing to me, have enough beef to be flexible with speakers, and are too freaking he... | |
| New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions @gdhal. Glad to "hear" that. They’re not where I hear the biggest differences in the DACs, but Brian Bromberg’s two "Wood" albums work well for me for bass comparisons. Maybe worth a shot if you are hearing differences in the bass on Spanish Harle... | |
| Tekton Impact Monitors @nonoise. Same here. $1800 just a few days ago. IIRC, it was represented to be an "introductory" price.Went on the site to maybe pull the trigger, and $2k. Not a huge deal, but enough for me to temporarily put the safety back on since I was teeter... | |
| New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions @gdhal . I’m unfamiliar with that source. I wasn’t really suggesting Ms. Pidgeon, in particular, although I suspect a lot of us have heard it enough times to be familiar. :)I suppose it probably shouldn’t matter whether it’s from cd, usb stick, fr... | |
| New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions @gdhal . I’m also curious about George’s recommendations.I’d suggest a few recordings with which you are very familiar. If you’ve had some that you ever thought to yourself sounded particularly thin/metallic/digital, maybe try those. As cheesy as ... | |
| Speaker cable length with monoblock amps? I have no science to support the madness, but I usually try to use the shortest possible speaker cable. I don't think I can hear a difference by cutting the couple feet off the run, but it helps reduce wire webs. | |
| Tekton Impact Monitors $2k, now. | |
| PADIS vs Furutech fuses So, there was this show I think on the Cooking Channel in which the effect of color on taste was intended to be demonstrated. The demonstration included a fairly unscientific, single-blind, single taster. A cake was baked. Eight pieces were cut... | |
| Tekton Double Impacts I love reading about folks' success with unorthodox (intriguing) combinations. Have a few myself...well, I like them.Haven't pulled the trigger on Tektons, yet. Keep getting sidetracked with shiny things, like Focal cans.Probably going to go wit... | |
| Benefits of an external DAC @whitestix. In my limited experience, decent DACs often sound more alike than different. I think the one of the bigger issues is settling in on one that doesn't do something you don't like--perceived glare, thinness, digitalliness, metallickines... | |
| Wonderful visit and 5-star customer service at Audio Doctor in Jersey City, NJ! "market two is vast and untapped it will only open up when we find a way to get more people to find out about quality audio and how music can make a real difference in their lives."Good luck. I hope there is a market after "we" kick the bucket, b... | |
| Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl? Geoff--finally something on which I think I can sort of at least partially agree with you, although the distinction between the purely psychological and the physiological is getting blurred as more folks monkey with brains.Has a mood affected hear... | |
| Best wishes for Tom Petty :( | |
| Tekton Double Impacts @greg22lz "I grabbed the cardboard flap with my teeth to keep the box from sliding toward me while pulling the speaker in the styrofoam toward me."You should have made an "unboxing" video! :) | |
| what speakers to buy @2channel8. What Cantons do you have? You are about the only person I've seen mention them, lately. |
