Steam cleaning records 2
"AQ" is reportly near 99% as pure a Nerl water...Crem1 (Threads | Answers)...but what about the +1% of impurities?Might they adversely affect the records we are so intent on preserving?
do fancy fuses help?
I wonder if Building-Ships-In-Bottles discussion boards are as meshuge as audiophile discussion boards.
Help with bi-wirable efficient floorstanding 2.5K
Take a look at the Proac Studio 140 impedance specs: 8 ohms nominal, 4 ohms minimum. Not an ideal impedance curve for SET (or many tube amps). For tubes, you want a speaker with high sensitivity and a flat impedance curve (with a minimum impedance ...
need help on transparent sounding 12au7 tubes
there's too much to give up with these to get that seductive midrange. The top and bottom extension just isn't there. BobPtmconsulting (System | Reviews | Threads | Answers)I have used Mullard Backburn production 12AU7 tubes in several component ...
A decent set of beginner advice to care of vinyl
FWIW, I have found microfiber cloths shed a good deal of microfiber lint on the LPs, which is apparent on the stylus after playing an LP. I quickly gave up on microfiber and returned to lint free cotton cloths.

I agree with Al.
The best no-compromise digital options?
Fplanner2000, I'm considering doing something similar with an Esoteric UX-3Pi and a Modwright Transporter. I suspect it might result in a very nice combination.

I agree that one should try steaming before making a blanket rejection. Steamers sold at Walgreens are inexpensive. Less than lunch for two at Denny's.
Wilson's new speaker the Sasha is coming.
I remember hearing the WP8 at a major audio show in 2006. The speakers were driven by ARC amplification. Stunning sound. Every reviewer was fawning over them. The "Holy Grail".The new Wilson speakers will undoubtedly result in some excellent buys ...
Which preamp?
If you find a good price on a used Juicy Music Peach...buy it.You won't regret it. You'll at least get a big grin on your face as you evaluate it in your system. It won't fulfill your "reference" preamp dreams, but it'll be a lot of fun. And, maybe...
Extended power on for Pass Labs XA.5 amplifiers
While I do believe leaving the Pass XA-.5 series amps powered up for days results in optimal sound, I also believe wasting energy by doing so is akin to pissing on those who are mindful of energy conservation. Yes, I'm going to be flamed, but so b...
the tough question: Which preamplifier? and why
Pops, I would have expected you to say warmer and richer, but not cleaner highs.Generally, high output impedance matched with low input impedance would result in a lack of bass definition and perhaps rolled off highs...thus a "warmer" presentation.

I'll take a stab.1) Hand Vac with soft brush attachment to vacuum the LP before you clean it2) Audio Intelligent One Step cleaner3) Disc Doctor Record Cleaning Brushes (one for the cleaning fluid and one for the optional water rinse)4) Lint free c...
