UPGRADE CDP NEED YOUR HELP
It's hard, isn't it.The decision all comes down to personal taste. Pick one, and buy a used version. If you don't like it, resell and move to the next one on your list...BTW, my pick under $1500 would be a used Modwright Sony 999ES with tube recti...
What's causing the highs to be rolled-off?
I will definitely be keeping the Premier however. I'll experiment with other power cords for now. If the Premier is the problem, I'll eventually uncover it. Fellas, thanks for all your advice.Foster_9 (Threads | Answers)It's quite possible that on...
crass to ask for feedback after a transaction?
Be a squeaky wheel and ask in a polite fashion.
What's causing the highs to be rolled-off?
Mrtennis makes a good point about living with the system for a while with it's "rolled off" characteristic. That's assuming you can discover how to get the highs back to where they were before they went missing.

No Newbee, I did not. I selected two highly regarded tube amps. One push-pull KT88 with 160 wpc, and one OTL 6AS7 with 60wpc. It's not as though they both sucked. The KT88 amps actually sound pretty darned good, but not as balanced as the SS amp. ...
AES Cary Sixpacs and Silverline Audio Sonata III
My experience with tube amps and the Sonata III involves more than bass issues. The treble region with two of my tube amps has been overly aggressive and bright, and the midrange has been recessed. This is why I have continually emphasized tonal ba...
What's causing the highs to be rolled-off?
I'd try plugging each component, one-by-one, directly into the wall. Start with the amp. If things don't improve, then plug the amp back into the conditioner's "Amp" duplex and plug your source directly into the wall.See if one combination improve...
AES Cary Sixpacs and Silverline Audio Sonata III
The difference between SS and tubes on my Sonata III has to do with tonal balance across the frequency range, not with volume. The tube amp emphasizes certain frequencies, and de-emphasizes others. The sound is unbalanced. Both tube amps I own(ed) ...

Perhaps he means nothing mentioned thus far costs enough to qualify as high end?
What's causing the highs to be rolled-off?
Too many variables to comment. What element was added just prior to the highs being rolled off?

Choose your speaker first, and then match an amp to the speaker. If you're married to the AES Sixpacks, then consult an AES dealer for speaker recommendations. That's my best advice.
Tube amps with BALLS in the low end registrer ???
How about the wolcott p220 monoblocks? 220 watts, adjustable damping for fine tuning and excellant quality.Rleff (Threads | Answers)I heard this amp driving Merlin VSM loudspeakers. It was hard, dry and lifeless. Anything but the "soft and wet" so...

Call Alan Yun of Silverline Audio and ask him for his advice. I did. He straight out told me for the music I listen to (rock and jazz mostly), anything less than 100wpc in a tube amp won't produce satisfactory results on the Sonata III loudspeaker...
