tube upgrade for first sound
Drubin, I went to the New Sensor website to order a pair of 0A2 tubes only to find they have a minimum order of $75? Is this your experience with New Sensor?
Which is best, Wilson Watt Puppy 3's or Aerial 7bs
I disagree completely with the characteristic of the Aerial 7B being warm, relaxed and easy going. I found the Aerial 7B to be bright and lean in the bass. Anything but relaxed and easy going. But, different system...different ears.
What can you tell me about First Sound pre-amps?
Good point Guidocorona about the balance control feature. While this is not specifically mentioned in the FS user manual, I have used it this way with good results on a couple of occasions.

Rwwear, if you want the absolute definitive answer as to why Emmanuel chooses to use separate volume pots, you should call him directly. He'll answer the phone or call you back promptly, and give you the straight dope.
Denon 3805, muddy voices.
I hate to admit it, but I've always had difficulty hearing dialogue with my Denon 3801...high or not.
Stillpoints vs Symposium Rollerballs
I never said asking questions and offering opinion and insight on discussion boards was a waste of time. My point is that it's a bad idea to buy with only that info and without doing any first hand listening. With that said, I stand by my recommend...
Stillpoints vs Symposium Rollerballs
Without trying to duck the question, I honestly believe the best answer is to try each in your own system with your own gear and with your ears. That's the only way you'll know which you prefer. Making purchase decisions based solely on responses ...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Guidocorona, I was not so much defending the First Sound as I was railing against those who feel that nothing less that the top-of-the-line offering from any manufacturer is worthwhile. This surfaces again and again in these posts with many brands...
Preamp Deal of the Century
You know, Guidocorona, your post has the bias of supposing that because the First Sound Presence Deluxe II is at the bottom of the First Sound family that it must by default really suck. You cannot be further from the truth, and frankly, you are d...
Von Schweikert VR4JR Set Up
No Maril555, you need a pink noise reference track. Stereophile "Editor's Choice Sample & Test CD", available from Stereophile.com, has a pink noise track. When you play this, and when your speakers are properly placed, you will hear a strong ...
BPT 3.5 Signature vs. 3.5 Sig PLUS
Thanks for the tip about trying adjacent duplexes, Kirk. I'll give that a shot.Addendum: 3/24/05 - I unplugged my amp from the BPT 3.5 Sig GFCI duplex and plugged it into one of the standard duplexes instead. It made all the difference; opened up ...
Dual-Disc Destined to fail? This reporter thinks so
Me neither.
BPT 3.5 Signature vs. 3.5 Sig PLUS
Thanks, Kirk. My impressions of the BPT 3.5 Sig are that it is velvety smooth and produces music that floats in an inky black background. However, compared to the Shunyata Hydra, it robs the music of some life and sparkle. It's the life and sparkl...
BPT 3.5 Signature vs. 3.5 Sig PLUS
Thanks, Owl. The characteristics of the Sig you describe are what bother me somewhat about the conditioner. Do you own the 3.5 Sig PLUS?
Vandersteen 3A Sig vs. Von Schweikert VR4 Jr.
Hasn't the original poster of the question stated that he's (or she's) made a decision to go with the VR4Jr? Why the continuing debate?
