Best 6922 tubes for DAC
"Stupidly expensive" and Tube World go hand in hand in my experience.
How to improve my system : Shunyata Hydra ?
Power conditioning is not going to produce the results you desire. What did you not like about the sound of your system with the Valhalla...why did you change to NBS? Maybe others can comment on the amplifier/speaker matching, but I'd look to this...
tube upgrade for first sound
Paul, it could be that Emmanuel created the shipment at his facility by entering the billing info (weight, address, etc), and didn't actually give the preamp to UPS until 6 days later. This would cause the shipment to be rescheduled and thus delay...
Best CD Player for 800-1500 Used
Where do you get a Toshiba 3960 for $45? A Froogle search returns prices around $69.I did see RAM Audio mods the Toshiba for $375 for a one box solution.
Reviews of the year/Lugs Update/Jazz
Ben, I did pull the post because I felt in retrospect it was too negative. Sorry. For those who missed it, I basically commented on Elliot Smith's similarity to John Lennon and the resulting derivative quality of the album. For me it lacked origina...
Spectacular Drum Set?
Check out Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. The modern day Neil Peart.
Thiel CS6 to Von Schweikert VR4 JR - Am i Crazy?
You might get what you're after by changing your speakers. You also might really improve your soundstage by upgrading your source, or having it modified (Dan Wright used to modify the Pioneer players...).
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
Howard, I actually like Phil Collins a lot. His work with Brand X was amazing. But the reverse recorded drums on many discs really blows the illusion of watching (or listening) to a "live" band. And, the drums are often miked too closely, thus pla...
Concert stage layout -- who made who?
Kind of a tangential comment, but I'm constantly intrigued by the miking of drums...especially studio recordings. I was a drummer for many years, and I often notice that drums are miked "backwards". For example, in a standard drum kit, as one is l...
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim)
Form Follows Function. If wood adds to the function of the equipment, and if the equipment is designed properly, it should look and sound good.Otherwise, use what functions the best, which would seem to be whatever material reduces RFI/EMI.Suprate...
Dedicated cdps that excel in vertical soundstaging
Warren, if you are suggesting that I require a reference, such as owning a recording made during a performance at Carnegie Hall that I also happened to attend, then no, I do not have a soundstage reference. But, I do have a pretty good imagination.
Dedicated cdps that excel in vertical soundstaging
I don't really care, Warren, if my visualization is accurate. If it sounds real. If I what I hear sparks my imagination and creates the illusion of a live performance, then I'm happy. During the days of drama on radio, did "radiophiles" strive to ...
Difference between First Sound Presence and Hotrod
I have only heard the Presence Deluxe II. I can't imagine anything in the First Sound line sounding better, so considering such units exist, they must be simply amazing.
Dedicated cdps that excel in vertical soundstaging
Warrenh, I define realistic exactly as you have described it...listening to a recording of an acoustic performance and being able to close one's eyes and visualize the musicians placement on stage. Tubes have enabled me to do this better than soli...
