Anyone hear the Caravelle speaker and not like it?
The Caravelles are $5k, and the new stands are considered necessary for optimum performance of the speakers. So, how much are the Caravelles with the new stands?
Digital Direct SHOOTOUT
I'm skeptical of anyone having experience with even two of these player direct to amp as you describe, and I'll be interested to read the posts of those who do. I have only experience with the APL Denon 3910 direct to amp: completely transparent, ...
VR-4JR or USHER 6371
Von Schweikert VR1 monitors with a sub might do the trick. The VR1 bookshelf speakers are designed to be placed close to a back wall.
Review: Denon DVD - 3910 CD Player
Pete, the "direct connect" is indeed a terrific advantage. I still prefer the APL through a dynamic, yet neutral preamp like the First Sound. But, then again, I've always marched to my own drummer.Anyway you connect it, the APL Denon 3910 is an ou...
VR-4JR or USHER 6371
The VR4 SR will not be a good choice for this.
Review: Valve Amplification Company VAC PHI BETA Integrated 110 Tube amp
You own it, so I'm deferring to you, Scott, but I think the preamp section uses 6922 and the amp section uses 6SN7 as driver tubes. Anyway, I know rolling the 6922 tubes in my First Sound preamp makes more impact than rolling the 6SN7 tubes of the...
Review: Valve Amplification Company VAC PHI BETA Integrated 110 Tube amp
Scotty, I agree wholeheartedly with your description of "control of SS with the magic of tubes". The VAC Phi amps have to "tubiness", yet still create those silky highs and 3D soundstage.Have you tried rolling any of the 6922 tubes? I bet it'd sou...
How to get multichannel sound from a CD?
The Denon A/V receivers have this feature. They call it 5 channel stereo, and it processes a two channel stereo CD into 5 channels. I use this in my home theater room where critical listening is not a priority. It really fills the room with sound....
Any fellow VAC Phi 220 owners out there? Thoughts?
Fsarc, I am currently using a TG Audio 688 on the Vac 110/110. It's the best I've found thus far. I was very close to trying the Precept, but my audiophile dollars are being allocated elsewhere at the moment. I'd give the Precept a try, though. Wi...
Any fellow VAC Phi 220 owners out there? Thoughts?
I have the Vac Phi 110/110 and I share your enthusiasm. A fellow Audiogoner recently told me mine was the most transparent system he had ever heard. I have just auditioned Revelation Audio Paradise interconnects, and it's the first time the musici...
Amperex PQ 6922 vs Amperex PQ 7308
Sirspeedy, that should be an interesting comparison. It's always fun to see how the new "undiscovered" tubes (e.g. Ediswan) that some sellers promote stand up to the tried and true "big boys".
Cables-how can you be sure of authenticity?
You're welcome, Ben. For those interested in the Cardas Certification Service, here's the link:Cardas Certification Service
Cables-how can you be sure of authenticity?
The only brand I'm aware of that has issues with counterfeiting is Cardas. Cardas actually has a page on their website devoted to this and they offer a certification program in which you can send them a Cardas cable and they will examine it and se...
Von Schweikert VR4JR Set Up
I agree with pulling them away from the back wall. Can you get them 3 feet from the back wall? Or even 2.5 feet (but, then you'll need to adjust the distance from the side wall so they are less or more than 2.5 feet...you don't want equal distance...
More on the VR4seIII
I've owned the Big Bryston. The Vac Phi 110/110 is better...more holographic, sweeter highs. Other than that, I can't offer any suggestions because I don't have direct experience with the VTL MB450 or Classe CAM350. Have fun!
