High efficiency speakers vs Low, pros and cons
If you have other speakers that do not reveal the deficiencies of your system, they are also not revealing part of the music. When you reveal all, you also get a more revealing musical experience. Some cannot tolerate this, and seek a more "forgiv...
Sumiko Premier MMT Arm VTA?
If it has no VTA adjustment, and you don't want to get another arm, then you have only one option, and that is to make machined spacers that will fit between the arm board and the base, that will be the correct thickness to raise the VTA to the pr...
Expensive vinyl rig - still not performing ;-
Roni, I've heard it costs about $250, not sure. Brother, when that arm gets here, and you fire up that rig, you are in for a major treat!
Help with Denon phono-stage please
Don't know about that one Dave.
Teres owners and vinyl junkies . . . .
I haven't heard the Illustrious, but if it is anything like the Encounter or Silver, (and it is) then it is a killer arm. I have the Silver, and it beats out arms that cost over $3k. The Illustrious has all the design features that make up a great...

Lazarus, either of those arms would work fine with the Arkiv. I personally think that the OL Illustrious would be a better choice, but the SME V is an excellent arm. You couldn't go wrong either way. I think the OL Illustrious would be a more musi...
MC Head Amp - do I need one, should I have one?
If everything is currently running up to your satisfaction, you don't need it.It only is needed when you select a lower output cartridge, that is too low for your existing phono stage. The other option would be a MC step-up transformer, which I thi...
Phono Stage Pre Amp
Of course, it depends on how much you want to spend, and what kind of cartridge you are going to use. Many people like things such as the Black Cube, Monolithic, or similar ones, that are around $350 used to $700 new.Others want tube phono stages w...
Help trying to return to vinyl
The best phono stage with volume controls I know of is the Aesthetix IO w/volume control. It is expensive, but very good. And it has all the gain you'll ever need for going direct to the amp with just about any cartridge.
Upgrading Planar 2
You can upgrade in any order you want. But, there is a specific order that is correct to follow if you want to acheive the maximum benefit from the upgrades. That order is TT, then arm, then cartridge. The cartridge is limited by what the TT and arm...
Suggestions for optimizing Argent Room Lenses?
I have my lenses positioned as I described above, and my system throws a soundstage 4 feet wider than the lens positions. That's 4 feet wider on each side. I don't think that the lenses are limiting your soundstage.
Acoustic Signature, Final Tool
It looks to be a pretty good unit. I like the basic design and implementation. I haven't heard it, but I'll bet it sounds good.
Speaker priority: high or low???
Spent plenty of time in the audio business, and I totally disagree with speakers being the most important part in the chain. Maybe they are the most important part of the mid-fi business chain, but not the audio system chain.
Suggestions for optimizing Argent Room Lenses?
My suggestion is to flank the outside of each speaker with a lens, at a 45 degree angle. Place each lens about a foot outside of each speaker, and about a foot forward of each speaker. Then take the last lens, and place it directly between the spe...
Best High Output MC
Be aware that some phono stage MM inputs are too low in gain to even properly accept some HO MC cartridges. I have talked to some people recently that had 2.0mv output MC carts, and the output was insufficient to get decent volume levels. Check wi...
