Gold CDs ...... too much?
There are actually several tapes referred to by the major record companies as masters. Frequently, so called "safety masters" are sent to other countries to produce product. The reason is that the original masters are the record companies greatest...

Gold CDs ...... too much?
I notice that the gold medals given out at the olympics are actually MFSL CDs. Athletes sacrifice their entire lives just to have the opportunity to compete for one of these. How selfish can you be to not want to pay a couple of hundred bucks for ...
Night Of the Johnstown Flood
I believe that the line is, " And the band played while at night the johns in town flood."
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Timrhu, no offense taken; I have never heard the Nak and can only suggest what I am familiar with. No doubt, there are always better choices. That is the beauty of these forums, hopefully the best guidance can come from a distillation of the avail...
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
Rich, no, no, no. The original Adcom GFP-555 has an excellent MC stage. There is a little switch on the back panel that you flip for MC. In addition to adding the gain, it changes the impedance to 100 ohms, which is good for many MC cartridges. Th...

I like their power cables but could never buy any product from a company that features religious hyperbole so prominently in their marketing.
Best Budget Choice for Preamp w/MC Built-In?
How about $150.00 for an Adcom GFP-555. Smooth sound, nice MC stage, very well built and realiable. You will even have some scratch left over to buy Sundazed's excellent mastering of Laura Cantrell's breakthrough album, "When The Roses Bloom Again...
Any system ever moved you emotionally like this?
No system has ever brought me to tears, but "It Never Entered My Mind" off of Miles Davis "Workin'" does every time, even if I hear it on the car radio. I must not be an audiophile.
Do Audiophiles really like music?
"Also, when recordings are engineered so poorly that they are not tolerable on a good sound system...." Funny, I listen to bootlegs recorded both in the audience, and from the board, as well as old mono records and even transfers from the acoustic...

If you call the Sheffield Track Record music, you bet!
Ergonomics of Classic Recording Studio Gear
I too like the reference and, in case I was not clear regarding taste, I love DSOTM. If you want to try something really great there is a bootleg that has been floating around for years under various names, but "The Screaming Abdabs" is what it is...
Ergonomics of Classic Recording Studio Gear
Huh, I don't find DSOTM challenging at all. Sonically, I find it rather thick and murky, in spite of all of the really cool musique concrete. I have four LP copies, regular Mo-Fi, British Harvest, German EMI and Japanese Pro-Use half speed. I had ...

Ergonomics of Classic Recording Studio Gear
Rent, or buy the DVD "Pink Floyd at Pompeii, the Directors Cut" Circuit City just had it on sale for $12.00. Therein you will see much of the EMI Abbey Road Studios, even Rick Wright laying down some of the piano tracks that were used on DSOTM. Yo...
